Ben Affleck Reveals He Completed 40-Day Rehab Stay: 'I Am Fighting for Myself and My Family'

The actor, 46, posted a lengthy statement on his Instagram Thursday where he reveals he is now continuing outpatient care after wrapping up his stay this week. Affleck also thanks fans and family for the well wishes he has received while in treatment.

Affleck entered rehab on Aug. 22 after his ex-wife Jennifer Garner was seen arriving at his house twice throughout the day before driving the Justice League star to a treatment center, PEOPLE confirmed. He had been staying at the center, with only brief breaks to workout at home and attend business meetings, ever since.

Affleck previously entered rehab in 2001 and, years later, announced he had completed treatment for alcohol addiction in March 2017. A source recently told PEOPLE that Affleck seemed to be taking this trip differently.

“Ben seems to take this rehab visit more seriously,” the insider said. “This time is different. He doesn’t want his kids to have to go through this again. Ben is really trying very hard to get better.”

Some of the Hollywood fallout rate is long established behavior. “you’re only as good as your last movie”.

I caught part of Whatever Happened To Baby Jane on tv this week (had never seen it before) and there is alcoholism in it too from an aging actress. That was made in the early 60s.

My brother is an alcoholic. Just got out of a 5 day stay in a lockdown facility on a 51-50. Still don’t know the whole story but when I picked him up yesterday I said....why do you have to drink? He said....lonely and bored. I just shook my head.

I took the 1 step program. Take one step towards Jesus and leave your addiction behind.

Does Hollyweird mess its stars up or are they already messed up or predestined for it? I’m going with already ripe for addiction and other mental/personality deficiencies with their craving for aTtEnTiOn! and need to preach to the little people.

Either that or the lifestyle of Hollywood. Also could be a combination of both. Being rich famous brings a lot of power, and power corrupts over time.

He needs to stop hanging around with Patrick Leahy.

He must be miserable in that marriage.

The spouse is never responsible for the addiction. Picking up the drink is the decision of the drinker.

Jennifer is his ex-wife and the mother of his children. He has had a variety of girlfriends since. She did him a good turn by trying to help him get into rehab, for the sake of the kids. He has acknowledged her as the stable parent to the family, something he is not.

This should sober everyone up to the reality of our true wants and needs.

You can have all the money and fame anyone could want and still end up a druggie in rehab with a very high risk of recidivism.
