Hollywood movie star Ben Affleck has two additional slaveholding ancestors. S.L. Speisseger, who owned 3 slaves in Chatham County Georgia in 1840, according to 1840 U.S. Census, and Georgia A. Speissegger Cole, who owned 1 slave in 1863 and 1864, according to Savannah and Chatham County, Georgia tax digests found by the Daily Beast.
This brings the total number of Affleck’s known slaveholding ancestors to 14, and the number of slaves either owned or “held” as a trustee or on behalf of an estate by these ancestors to 242.

This puts him in about the same boat as Obama.
What will be the most interesting part of all this will be the part when they reveal who some of the slaves descendants are.
Ben is going to have to buy them all plane tickets back to Africa.
That’s the only right thing to do, because, but for Ben’s ancestors, that’s where they would have the privilege of living.
Instead they are sentenced to live in this hell-hole called America.

My grandpa on mom’s side was a gangster. And not a good man. It is what it is. Dad’s pop was great.
Difference between me and Ben is I’m not stupid or pompous enough to point to other Americans with Italian heritage and say “repent!! you must have had ONE gangster in the family!!”
Aunt Mary on dad’s side was bookmaker. Got arrested at 82 and out in paddy wagon in Brooklyn. I was drinking a pop. Remember her cursing the cops and saying you couldn’t make a living In this country :)

He got famous for a screenplay he didn’t write. Therefore he didn’t earn the money. Some other writer got screwed. He should be paying reparations to the writer.
All I can say is who cares. My ancestors were slaves... SLAV, root word slaves... Escaped from Eastern Europe on one side and enslaved by UK goons on the other. I guess I don’t have the melanin content to complain about it. OR, IT WAS 200 YEARS AGO AND HAS NO INFLUENCE ON MY LIFE!!!

Your Aunt Mary sounds like a feisty lady. I grew up in an Italian neighborhood. We used the term “bookies.” But I guess all neighborhoods have bookies.
Shake my family tree, and maybe a few gamblers will fall out. But no slaveowners... ;-) One of my ancestors “danced at Lincoln’s Inaugural Ball,” or so the family story goes...

Anderson Cooper, baseball star Derek Jeter and filmmaker Ken Burns have recently appeared on the PBS docuseries. All three celebrities discovered that their ancestors were slave owners.
Ben should do the honorable thing and pay up.
