Here in the Northwest we have had several recent deaths by cougars, one in Washington state and one in Oregon.

So fortunate that this brave young gal could save her brother.

What she did will most often scare a mountain lion away. Usually, they’ll run from a person facing them and acting aggressively. They’re not like bears.

If you’re in the mountain lion country and have dogs, know that they’ll eat dog food, too, at least in the winter. I caught two of them eating my dog’s food, while my dog was indoors one night. The moon was bright. It was too cold even for my dog in his doghouse (minus-30s).

When I saw them, they bounded over the six-foot fence around the dog’s pen and bounded up the hill through the ice, splitting about 70 yards apart from each other while running. They “bounded” to keep from getting slowed down by the large, grainy patches of ice on the ground (consistency of sand, really, up to a foot deep in places). They stood up there about 200 yards away and watched me.

I’ve heard mountain lions calling many nights and have spotted them with a light when they were making the noise. It’s the only noise that I’ve ever heard them make. They make short screeching noises, like some kind of bird. They’d usually make that noise for quite a while. I’ve heard it for up to an hour or so, sometimes with several cats making it (Colorado Rockies from about 8,500 feet elevation to about 9,500 feet). Most often heard them make that noise very late at night.

I finally found a sound file with the same noise after hearing them make it for several years. The description with the file said that it is a female mating call.

I predict the members of this family will get a lot of sh*t from crazy leftists for killing a cougar.

The article says the cougar was scared away. The arrow might have been a target arrow which nicked the cat and bounced off.

Regardless, this boy owes big sis a huge debt of gratitude forever.

When bows and arrows are licensed and controlled, only brave 16 year olds will dare to break the law and save family and friends. Will our quiver be limited to just a few rounds (arrows)? What will be the penalty for too many arrows in a single quiver. Will there be a limit to how many quivers one can own?

If this was California they would have arrested her.

Good Lord, the 40-year-old bar-hoppers are targeting 6-year-olds now? I always thought they went after 24-year-old fitness instructors...

(Seriously, very brave & on-the-spot thinking by the sister! And 'courage' and 'cougar' differ by only one letter. That's gotta be important somehow.)

She will be arrested for an unregistered assault bow & arrow.

Imagine the social chaos from unlicensed, unregistered bows lacking background checks.

Somebody should perform a background check on the girl, and send a copy to the Democrat candidate for office. That boy would be dead.

A woman was killed by a cougar in Oregon just last month. She went hiking alone in the woods and found mauled.

“The article says the cougar was scared away. The arrow might have been a target arrow which nicked the cat and bounced off.”

Then the father hunted it down and killed it with a (gasp) assault rifle.

Wouldn’t be surprised. Also would expect this family to let such roll off their collective backs like water from a duck’s... back...
