considering that we have ten choices for numbers: 1234567890

and 26 alpha choices: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

the mathematical combinations are mind boggling.

Perhaps I really am getting old and cranky but computer “security” is really out of hand.

I’ve got about a thousand passwords, they all need to follow different rules, they all expire and need to be replaced. Tech support never helps worth a damn. And I most emphatically DON’T feel that these systems are at all secure. The passwords don’t really help me. They just make my life difficult.

We should have ID cards that can be slotted into machines, retinal scans, and 4-digit PIN numbers that never change. One method of access for everything. Including voting machines.

A longer password is generally more computationally secure than an 8 character password made with special characters, and can be much easier to remember, so you don’t wind up having to write it down.

For example, using a friends address, like Joe1523Hollingswood.

Nowadays they can just implant an RF ID chip under your skin and...oh, wait...

I find it troubling that people can’t think of password when you tell them:
A capital letter, a lower case letter, a number and a special character and it must be longer than 8 characters, no dictionary words.

They can figure out how to post fake news to Fakebook but they can’t figure out a simple password.

Here’s your password: DJT4POTUS2020Maga!

God bless

What gets me is when I call some company to make a payment on a debt and I get someone who asks me about a dozen questions to verify I am who I say I am.

After I prove who I am I invariably say to them, just for future reference, IF ANYONE CALLS you wanting to pay money on my debt, don't ask who they are, just accept the money. Dolts.

Have you heard of “forgot password” link on any website where you are trying to sign in ? All you really need to remember is 1 password, your email password. With that link, you can have an email sent to you so you can reset the password.

Depends on where you work. I work with a number of systems that do not provide that utility. If you can’t log in, you need to call a human. No other way to reset your password. And — quite often — the human that you reach does not know how to reset a password.
