Tim Conway is battling dementia.
The 84-year-old Carol Burnett Show stars daughter Kelly is asking to be appointed conservator of her father and be in charge of his medical treatments, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE and first reported by The Blast.
Kelly, 56, filed the documents in Los Angeles on Friday, claiming Conways wife Charlene is planning to move him out of the excellent skilled nursing facility he is currently at and place him in one that wont give him access to registered nurses at all times and his 24-hour caregiver and speech therapist (to help with swallowing).
Kelly also states that Conway cannot properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, and clothing and is almost entirely unresponsive.
She hopes to be granted guardianship so she can also administer her fathers medications herself.

I believe if people went immediately to a keto style diet right away it might have helped. There is a definitely sugar connection with dementia; they all crave it like crazy.
OR maybe it is too late once the dementia symptoms begin.
Getting mom up this morning, she asked how old she was. I asked her how old she thought she was. She thought about it and said, hmm. Probably 60? Then before I could say anything, she thought. No, I dont feel SIXTY! Probably like 50?
Shes 85.
These diseases also have a significant effect on a person’s caregivers.
The worst stage for the actual patient is when they realize they are losing it. It is so frustrating to them. Its better when they get to the child stage like my mom. But they think they are perfectly fine so they need to be watched like a hawk. And they can fake that nothing is wrong for other people or guests for a little while, so other people wont understand how helpless and difficult they are when the guest isnt there. Its like they rise to the occasion and sound easy and great. For a little while.
Lots of times there is one family member in total denial about the stage the patient is at. They could be ready for hospice but one person cant handle that. Other times it is a financial thing, or a resentment thing (one kid doing all the work etc). Its a shame. I remember that case with my old boss Casey Kasem. Prayers up for the Conway family. Alzheimers is tough enough when you are not famous.
We’re in the process of losing our third family member to dementia. Whoever called it The Long Goodbye put it well.
Its too long for how horrible it is. I am so sorry for you and your loved one and family.
After having seen Dad go all the way down all the stages and have Alzheimers be his cause of death, because he was so darn fit and healthy otherwise, we are now with Mom just hoping she doesnt have to go all the way down thst horrible path. She has some other issues and best would be if one night in her sleep she just went on to the next world. Alzheimers is the worst condition ever.
My Mother died in June this year. She had dementia. I have missed her for many years even though she was here physically. She also was not able to communicate much before her death.
Dementia robs the patient and the family and friends.
It is so heartbreaking.
Nice post, thanks, and you certainly have met some VERY interesting people.

Thanks for that link———I’ll have to find our more about that diet.

Don’t think of it as a diet. You have to think of food as medicine.
First thing to do is go to the diabetes section of Walgreens and buy some “Keto Sticks” to test your urine. They change color when your liver is making ketones.
If you are really serious, get a “Keto Mojo” meter and test strips from Amazon, about $85 for the meter and starter kit. This will let you test your blood glucose and blood ketones. It gives you a ketone number instead of a range of colors on the pee sticks.
It takes a couple days for the body to start making ketones, then another week or two to where the body is actually getting adapted to using them. In the mean time, your body is still trying to burn carbs, but there aren’t any. It will take a while for the liver to get the message to start breaking down the fat and making ketones.
You have to go through a short period of the “keto flu”, where you don’t have a lot of energy. Your body is making ketones but is not efficiently using them. So you pee them out and your pee sticks say you are making ketones, but not using them yet.
The main thing is to get your brain running on ketones by eating high fat, moderate protein, VERY low carbs. And don’t eat throughout the day. Best results if you pick a narrow range of time to eat. This is called intermittent fasting.
Try to go at least 13 hours between dinner and breakfast. Even better to skip breakfast and eat between 12 and 6, or something like that. You have to use whatever carbs you ate before your liver makes ketones. Some people do one meal a day. If you watch youtubes on keto, you will see OMAD, for one meal a day. That’s what I try to do but I mess it up by snacking on pecans and a strawberry here and there, or a taste of peanut butter now and then.
I have been buying big untrimmed tri tip roasts and slow cooking them in the oven. I use all the fat and drippings. I slice it thin, about 1/8”, about one ounce per slice. I’m 71 and sedentary, and I find five or six ounces is enough. Reheat gently in the skillet with some fat and drippings and it tastes like prime rib. NO BBQ sauce or katsup!
After a week or so, you will find you stop thinking of food, because your body has all the fuel it needs, in the form of stored fat. If you are over weight, be prepared to go shopping for new pants.
My last blood work showed I was pre diabetic with fatty liver. I was size 42 in April, now 38, and my weight is down from 233 to 205.
I had tri tip about 9 hours ago, then a small handful of pop corn. I just tested, and my glucose is 106, ketones are 0.8. Anything over 0.5 you are in ketosis, but I would like to see them up around 1.5. I find they go up about a full point for every day I don’t eat. I did a three day fast in May and got them over 3.0. This is where you start getting into “therapuetic ketosis”. Between 0.5 and 3.0 is considered “nutritional ketosis”, good for weight loss.
Thanks,JohnnyP——I will certainly give it a try——I do NOT think I could do just one meal a day,though-——we’ll see.

I watch a lot of keto videos on youtube.
Just started watching this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK1OJ0UM2vo
They bring up dementia, also known as type 3 diabetes. You could start watching at 44:37.
He's just been to the dentist......
SNORF!
Another good one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR8bHXZKZj8
Dr. D’Agastino is in the audience and helps out answering a question about 48 minutes in.
Since learning of my wife’s cancer, I have watched almost everything by Dr. D’Agastino and Dr. Seyfried.
Thanks,JohnnyP
