Middle-aged people who get roughly half their daily calories from carbohydrates live several years longer on average than those with meat-heavy low-carb diets, researchers reported Friday. The findings, published in The Lancet medical journal, challenge a trend in Europe and North America toward so-called Paleo diets that shun carbohydrates in favour of animal protein and fat. Proponents of these "Stone Age" diets argue that the rapid shift 10,000 years ago -- with the advent of agriculture -- to grains, dairy and legumes has not allowed the human body enough time to adapt to these high-carb foods. For the study, receiving less than 40 percent of total energy intake from carbohydrates qualified as a low-carb regimen, though many such diets reduce the share to 20 percent or less. At the other extreme, a 70 percent or higher share of carbohydrates -- such as pasta, rice, cakes, sugary drinks -- can also reduce longevity, but by far less, the scientists found. "Low-carb diets that replace carbohydrates with protein or fat are gaining widespread popularity as a health and weight loss strategy," said lead author Sara Seidelmann, a researcher at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. "However, our data suggests that animal-based low carbohydrate diets might be associated with shorter overall lifespan and should be discouraged." Replacing meat with plant-based fats (such as avocados and nuts) and proteins (such as soy products and lentils) reduces the risk of mortality, Seidelmann and her team found. The optimal balance of food groups for longevity remains hotly debated. Many studies have concluded that eating carbohydrates in moderation -- 45 to 55 percent of total calorie intake -- is best, but others report improved short-term, cardio-metabolic health with high-protein, high-fat diets.

Serious about the sleepy time weightloss. Added benefit is that you start the day feeling good, knowing you lost 3 pounds just sleeping. Try not to gain it all back and then lost some more the next night.
Actually, from my own experience and that of others in the facebook group, the fatigue is usually not enough salt & water, and just plain old not eating enough. Eat until full, not some prescribed portion.
Actually if you eat enough fresh meat and fats you will get all the vitamins you need. Eating *carbs* actually necessitates the need to supplement your vitamins.
.
Men never lived in caves until well after the flood.
That is partly because there were no caves until the crust of the Earth was broken up.
.
Not enough vitamin D, magnesium, and potassium are big issues in fatigue.
Adrenal glands need massive amounts of magnesium.
so far on my low carb way of eating I gave up the beer, and yesterday was the last day of irish whiskey (half a shot with cream and this morning I had a headache :(. but I am hoping at some point to add back a light yeungling every other day lol (hubby will cringe at that lol)
Working at the moment. Never know the future. Might have to switch things up as I age.
So are you. Like watching a train wreck.
Enjoy lol!
From the same people who suggest a diet that is used to fatten up cattle the fastest.
Hey if it means less time around these orwellian assh0le control freaks, it works for me.
“There’s millions to be made “treating” diabetes but people like you want to reverse it. Sure, people can be happier, healthier and leaner but what’s the fun in that when Big Pharma can “help” you”
Nice sarcasm!
It skewed short because of high infant mortality, up until about a hundred years ago. I have a copy of a great aunt’s genealogy record. Dates back to our earliest ancestors here in the US. Men have been living to their mid80s, women until their mid90s since the 17th century.
What’s different is the number of kids who survive childhood. As recently as my gr a parents generation, half the kids didn’t make it to adultnood. Throw in safe that cut you g men down in their prime, that stunts life expectancy figures too, unless statistically adjusted for.
you do have to look at what was killing people at various times. It was interesting to see an interview with Australian aboriginals who once died of mostly old age or injuries and now die of mostly diabetes or cancer from a western diet. There was a time when communicable disease, infections, injuries, war etc would kill you, not diabetes, cancer, autoimmune disorders, etc.
I have seem what I consider to be plenty enough evidence to see we are killing ourselves with sugar and grains and soy.
What you say is true. A person’s expected age of death was quite different at birth from what it was if the person survived to, say, 40.
Ive noticed a recent trend around here toward the alinskyite tactic of dropping all pretext of intellectual debate and resorting to mocking the target, when conftonted with contravening facts. Youre quite the practitioner. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, facts are stubborn things. They remain after the ridicule is over.
I believe like you do!!!!
You know, you’re just boring now.
You’ve been mocking yourself. I don’t give the 1st shit what you think happened to me when a doctor told me I had gout 30+ years ago. I don’t care if that flies in the face of all proven medical science. I care even less what you think about anything now. You took an atom & created for your own pleasure a mountain of nothing. Play with it as you will.
I feel very sorry for you right now. Ok now, I’m over it. BYE!
I love romaine too. I could live on Caesar salad - no croutons please.
My favorite green is still arugula. Even Obama couldnt ruin it for me. I can eat handfuls with nothing on it. Fun to grow also.
Its really true for some reason. Good vivid dreams seems to be sign that everything is working well. Dull dreaming and poor sleep is a symptom and also a misery.
