This 1955 ‘Good House Wife’s Guide’ Explains How Wives Should Treat Their Husbands

9.) Be happy to see him. Free him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him. Listen to him.

10.) You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first — remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

11.) Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.

12.) Your goal: Try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order and tranquility where you husband can renew himself in body and spirit.

13.) Don’t greet him with complaints and problems.

14.) Don’t complain if he’s late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day.

15.) Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.

16.) Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

17.) Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment of integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

18.) A good wife always knows her place.

Put another log on the fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans
And go out to the car and change the tire
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans
Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe
And then go fetch my slippers
And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on the fire, babe
And come and tell me why you’re leaving me

Hahahahahahahahaha... best thing I’ve read all day! Even my mother didn’t do any of this in 1955. My parents were a team.

My dh and I are a team as well. We both have successful businesses in customer service and nothing better than texting what a crazy customer has said. We both come home and love sitting out on the patio watching our crazy dogs play. He, with his iced tea that he’s fixed himself, and me with a cup of coffee that I’ve brewed myself lol.

However, iffen I did any of these things.. my dh would probably wonder if A) does he need to hire an attorney? And B) How badly smashed is the car?

“Don’t ask him questions about his actions.”

“Don’t complain even if he’s home late for dinner or stays out all night.”

I’m sorry but, if he stays out all night, there will be some questions.

This is, and has always been in every era of human history, a list that resonates with men and in view of how skewed the dynamics between women and men have gotten, it is worth reading and commenting on.

The last 2 are the summary and will ensure a happy home:

17.) Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment of integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

18.) A good wife always knows her place.

Well as a wife I see nothing wrong with this. If he’s keeping up his end of the bargain, housewife and mother is a wonderful job.

I think I married your long lost twin sister.

Could we at least have a photo of yourself before we adhere to these rulings? I go over to the Free Republic page on Facebook and to be perfectly frank, I haven’t seen any male either young, good-looking or particularly in shape when they bloviat—I mean, post...

(For those who don’t do Facebook, all posts have photos attached.)

Perhaps you’re not on Facebook?

My mom and dad were apparently a few years ahead of their time-they were partners in all-as in equals-it worked for them and I grew up believing that was the way to be married-I didn’t have any complaints from a husband, either-we respected one another equally, too-I won’t have a relationship any other way...

These lines were particularly annoying to me-it should read like this-

“Don’t complain if he’s late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night-save it for right before you throw his stuff-and him out the f’ing door-in front of the neighbors- and then lock it.”

Or handle it this way-

“Have a cool or warm drink-his favorite adult beverage liberally spiked with Hemlock-ready for him”...

You understand why men prefer the versions in the article over your versions.

List anything from the article that qualifies as either of those things.

LOL. Every notice those guys driving pickups with the cutout of a posing sexy woman always look like they haven't shaved or bathed in days, need to lose 80 or more pounds and are as ugly as a mud fence?

Young or old I never had/have to worry about mine, out all night or not. He brings home the bacon, I fry it up in a pan. Because I am w-o-m-a-n, I’ll say it again.
