Its really truly happening: Patrick Stewart has been cast in a new Star Trek series.
Stewart will reprise his iconic character, Jean-Luc Picard, for a CBS All Access series that will tell the story of the next chapter of Picards life.
Stewart himself just announced the news in a surprise appearance at the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention.
I will always be very proud to have been a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but when we wrapped that final movie in the spring of 2002, I truly felt my time with Star Trek had run its natural course, Stewart said. It is, therefore, an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over.
Stewart added that now, in particular, seems like a good time to bring back the character, who exemplified calm, moral, reasoned leadership. During these past years, it has been humbling to hear many stories about how The Next Generation brought people comfort, saw them through difficult periods in their lives or how the example of Jean-Luc inspired so many to follow in his footsteps, pursuing science, exploration and leadership, he said. I feel Im ready to return to him for the same reason to research and experience what comforting and reforming light he might shine on these often very dark times. I look forward to working with our brilliant creative team as we endeavor to bring a fresh, unexpected and pertinent story to life once more.
And Yeoman Rand!
Heck, Patrick Stewart stole the show in Dune. But was so indelibly a second-in-command (and also in Hamlet), I just struggled to picture him as a captain in spite of his excellent acting performance and the absolute nullity of Number Two, William Riker.
There was and is no doubt Patrick Stewart was the only true actor among The TNG cast.
He does. Or at least he did. The very last episode, with Q.
I saw a trailer for the 2nd season of Star Trek Discovery or as it is known as: STD <—
They have Christopher Pike taking command of the ship and the background music is loud, very loud Lenny Kravitz ‘music’
Never liked the new show and stopped watching after about the 4 or 5th show. The actors also all support the NFL football players hatred of the police and America.
Watching Star Trek The Next Generation is like watching a college administrators meeting.
Proud to say I never watched a single episode of TNG. Good luck to Stewart who is a fine actor.
the man who introduced acting into the series. I’m a trekker for life, count me in. Didn’t pay for the cbs series though.
But, but, nothing compares to “Gunsmoke”. Love that western!
Since the kneeling fiasco with that other 'new' ST series, I'll never watch anything from that franchise, even if the DeLancie reprises his Q role in this new one. Thanks EdnaMode.
Last time I looked., Gunsmoke is still on antenna TV.
As ST:TNG already pointed out, by now a retired Admiral Picard would be tending to his lovely vineyard in France. Are they going to do a show called “Star Trek: Grapes !” ? If this new show is the SJW merde that the present show is, that will be just as bad, if not worse.
Quite possibly the Post of the Decade...:^)
I'm thinking "Star Trek: The Hospice Care"
I liked him too and Deanna Troi was especially hot........
I see The Left blowing any chance of actual success, during the new ST series. The Left is great at screwing up things.
John DeLancie stayed at our hotel and tried to trade some of his autographs for a free room... No sale!
