Bloodstains on Shroud of Turin are probably fake, experts say
Fox News ^ | 07/15/18 | Christopher Carbone

The Shroud of Turin, which has been revered by some Christians as the burial cloth of Jesus, could be a fake, according to a new forensic investigation.

The investigation into the bloodstain pattern on the cloth was reported Tuesday in the Journal of Forensic Sciences and is apparently the first such analysis of the controversial shroud.

Held in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, the shroud shows the image of a crucified man and has been analyzed and scrutinized for many, many years. The Vatican regards it as an icon, rather than a religious relic—and the church has never weighed in on its authenticity nor officially rejected it.

In 2015, more than 2 million people saw the Shroud of Turin, which is 14-feet-long, 3.5-feet-wide and kept in a bulletproof, climate-controlled case. The cloth has long been the subject of debate and study.

Researchers concluded that the linen seems to be patched with bloodstains from a standing model, not a crucified man or a facedown corpse, reports BuzzFeed News, adding evidence to claims that it is a fraud.

“This is the kind of forensic work done all the time in police investigations,” Matteo Borrini, a forensic scientist at Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom, told BuzzFeed News. “Even a crucified or hanging person should leave a distinct blood pattern on the cloth, which would be fascinating information to have.”

A few years ago I watched a several hours long special about scientists who studied the shroud for months. It convinced many of them who were skeptics to become believers.

To understand how the Vatican has mishandled the shroud and its research, read THE RAPE OF THE TURIN SHROUD by William Meacham.

I believe some top-notch physicist (a woman) studied the shroud and came up with the theory that it was sort of a mini “Big Bang”. The image is even around the entire shroud - not smooshed on the back or whatever. She called it a “singularity” iirc - where gravity is absent.

I was going to write that an absence of gravity would affect where the blood lies - but I guess the blood was on the cloth before the image was.

Oh - except still - you can’t match the image to the blood. Assuming the blood isn’t fake, it would have been on the cloth first, then the “singularity” (and the cloth in no gravity) and the image created.

I think the Spirit and Body both ascending to the Father created a Xerox-like imprint on the shroud from the energy used, but I’m no scientist.

Okay - now that I read the article....

I think that the absence of gravity when the image was laid down would explain the article quite a bit. “No consistent pattern...”

Interesting comment though about if the body was cleaned - why was there any blood at all on the image? Although I’m guessing those wounds weren’t going to heal up after the person was dead - and I don’t think the spear wound caused him to bleed out.

Well - that’s what the big bang was - a burst of energy. (And I posit that when God said “Let there be light” is when the big bang (or something similar to what we theorize) happened.)

And I think it is cool to think that God’s big bang can create everything, including life, and a mini-bang can resurrect the dead. Using the same principles - just on a different scale.

"Spirit and Body both ascending to the Father created a Xerox-like imprint"

That wouldn't work well with John 20:16,17

Yes, of course, police are always bringing in crucified corpses. Happens all the time.

From Luke 23

52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

Nowhere does it state that Jesus’ body was washed. It was paramount that burial take place before sundown/Sabbath began. Joseph of Arimathea had to get this done and then get cleansed from handling a corpse, also before sundown. The women brought the spices after the Sabbath was over.

I saw the Shroud of Turin on display in Atlanta, Ga around 1980.. I remember impression marks where Jesus was wrapped, and didn’t consider it blood, but sweat, etc from hanging on cross. There would have been blood from Crown of Thorns, no doubt. The Shroud of Turin has caused many scientists, who were skeptical to convert to Christianity, when in contact with it. The power of the Shroud is spiritual....

Experts come and go, and I don’t put much faith into what they say!

I believe in Christ - saves me from worrying about the shroud.

I don't think much bleeding happens after death. Once the heart stops, the blood pools in the lowest part of the body, normally the back, buttocks, and whatever part of the arms and legs are lowest. I think the blood coagulates after pooling.

It's gruesome, I know.
