The first meltdown over the Supreme Court was epic. Justice Anthony Kennedy let the Trump White House know shortly after the official end of the 2017 term that hes out by the end of July. Hes heading into retirement and creating a vacancy that gives conservatives the opportunity to have a solid majority on the Court. Of course, the Left went into full meltdown mode. From liberal journalists to former Clinton officials and strategists, it was a mix of flipping off Justice Kennedy and warning red state Democrats not to cave on whoever President Trump pick unless theyre fine getting zero help from the national party. MSNBCs Chris Matthews even suggested that vengeancemust be executed against this nominee, who will be revealed on July 9. Yeah, these people are still sour over Senate Republicans invoking the Biden rule over Merrick Garlands failed nomination.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: I think the Democrats, as I said a few moments ago, have to fight this tooth and nail. They have to use every process, opportunity, they have to stop this until next year, when we have a new Senate. We dont know whether the Senate will be Republican or Democratic-dominated. But to give this to the Republicans when they control this Senate basically 51, or 50 to 49 really, with John McCain perhaps not voting again to give them this last chance to pack the court 5-4 again, hard conservative. I again, I say this, the base will attack the leadership for this if they allow it to happen and they should. Because this is time for vengeance for what happened two years ago. And if they dont wreak the vengeance now, with four and a half weeks four and a half months to go before the election, they will not look very strong to their base and I think theyll be under attack and youll see more Joe Crowleys go down.
Weve been saying this all week, but the situation is shaky. It has to be done this year, which us what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has already stated is the course of action; hearings next month with a final confirmation vote in the fall. Itll be just in time for the midterms. Supreme Court nominees were very important to 21 percent of the 2016 electorateand 56 percent of that slice broke for Trump. Tax cuts, the booming economy, the ability to have a solid conservative majority on the court for the next generation all should be issues that get the GOP base animated. Moreover, the notion that the Trump agenda, which has created another solid jobs report, three million jobs, the lowest unemployment rates in years, and the highest consumer and small business confidence ratings in decades, could end if Democrats takeover should scare any Republican to vote in November. In the Senate, its quite possible that we end up with a 50-50 split. And Sens. Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) could defect, derailing Trumps nominee. Again, lets see what happens after Monday. Maybe one or two red state Democrats will defect as well. Well see. But if the first meltdown over a SCOTUS retirement announcement was any taste of what's to come in this fight, just imagine when the Trump pick is finally revealed. Itll be a character assassination like no other. The Democrat-media complex has already tried to smearthe potential nominees that have been floatedaround, as have actual Democrats, and theyve backfired magnificently.
Evangelicals elected Trump,Evangelicals want Amy Barrett to be the nominee. Everyone one his short list would be great. But the battle is now and the troops want Barrett.
One can always count on the Democrats to seek the moral lowground.
Biden made up a rule? Let him follow it.
I thought the Biden rule was buy a shotgun.
The loathsome Chuck Schumer is more than capable of picking up where the Pig-of-the-Senate, Ted Kennedy, left off.
If Trump did nothing else - just being the right man at the right time to appoint people who believe in America as these Supreme Court Justices ...
As to the ‘meltdown’ just more evidence to the sane americans what those people are.
It won’t be his first treasonous act.
Surely, she will retire after this term but she still will not vote for Trump’s choice. I bet she voted for Obama’s picks though. I don’t remember.
Ed Rollins predicted this morning that Trump will pick Barrett and Collins and Murkowski would vote for her. He said Kavanaugh is soon by many being a moderate. I hope hes right.
Yes i could imagine Schumer giving such a speech, in his hectoring condescending tone of voice.
^^^ Asked and answered.
But he might just vote against the nominee out of pure hatred for Trump that he has displayed from Day One (that day possibly being one of the days before the election). "From Hell's heart, I spit at thee!"
I am in full agreement with other posters here and in other threads over the past month that McCain is immobile, comatose, or even brain-dead. I am also in agreement with the thought that he will give up his seat one way or the other the day after this November's election, given that he hasn't given it up already. I just don't know what his end game is there though.
The death or retirement of RBG, Bryer, or Sotomayor (she's the one with diabetes, not Kagan) any time soon would be beyond what we saw in days and weeks after Trump was elected. I say in all seriousness that I believe we would see very public, very dramatic suicides.
Kennedy was at least nominally Conservative part of the time. Re RBG, and possibly breyerBreyer, I have to believe that they were in fact certain, as everybody on that side of the aisle was, that HRC would win. That assumption means that you stay on that bench until they carry you out in a pine box, so that HRC is picking as young a replacement as possible in, for example, late in her second term in 2023, rather than picking as young a replacement as possible in 2015.
The retirement temper tantrum is as much for Ginsberg as Kennedy. She may not even be allowed to die during Trump’s admin...

I actually think that in the current political climate the demacrat party will hemorrhage voters in the up coming election . If they try to Bork the nomination when we have a hearing to approve the nomination like they did to clearance Thomas.
I believe it will be mean and nasty but at this point politically it is actually good for republicans if it is mean and nasty during the confirmation.
P whipped men LOL.
I’ve heard that it’s likely, that the Kerry Edwards ticket of 2004, is probably the last Democrat presidential ticket with two white heterosexual men. Reason being, the Democrats have evolved into a Mish mash of various minority groups, and those groups want to see their members on presidential tickets from now on.
“a character assassination like no other.”
True. It’s because the anti-Americans are defeated.
The pro-abortion crowd is convinced that a new SC judge will have the community support to delete Roe v Wade. Overdue.
Roger Stone says Trump is making a big mistake if he picks deep stater
Kavanaugh.

They all thought that Hillary was a shoe-in. They couldn't wait to allow her to take center stage and nominate 2-3-4 justices that would ensure their judge-shopping in lower courts was backstopped.
