Yes, Another Liberal SCOTUS Meltdown Is Coming...And It Could Be One For The Record Books
Town Hall ^ | 7/8/2018 | Matt Vespa

The first meltdown over the Supreme Court was epic. Justice Anthony Kennedy let the Trump White House know shortly after the official end of the 2017 term that he’s out by the end of July. He’s heading into retirement and creating a vacancy that gives conservatives the opportunity to have a solid majority on the Court. Of course, the Left went into full meltdown mode. From liberal journalists to former Clinton officials and strategists, it was a mix of flipping off Justice Kennedy and warning red state Democrats not to cave on whoever President Trump pick unless they’re fine getting zero help from the national party. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews even suggested that “vengeance”must be executed against this nominee, who will be revealed on July 9. Yeah, these people are still sour over Senate Republicans invoking the Biden rule over Merrick Garland’s failed nomination.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: I think the Democrats, as I said a few moments ago, have to fight this tooth and nail. They have to use every process, opportunity, they have to stop this until next year, when we have a new Senate. We don’t know whether the Senate will be Republican or Democratic-dominated. But to give this to the Republicans when they control this Senate basically 51, or 50 to 49 really, with John McCain perhaps not voting again – to give them this last chance to pack the court 5-4 again, hard conservative. I again, I say this, the base will attack the leadership for this if they allow it to happen and they should. Because this is time for vengeance for what happened two years ago. And if they don’t wreak the vengeance now, with four and a half weeks – four and a half months to go before the election, they will not look very strong to their base and I think they’ll be under attack and you’ll see more Joe Crowley’s go down.

We’ve been saying this all week, but the situation is shaky. It has to be done this year, which us what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has already stated is the course of action; hearings next month with a final confirmation vote in the fall. It’ll be just in time for the midterms. Supreme Court nominees were very important to 21 percent of the 2016 electorate—and 56 percent of that slice broke for Trump. Tax cuts, the booming economy, the ability to have a solid conservative majority on the court for the next generation all should be issues that get the GOP base animated. Moreover, the notion that the Trump agenda, which has created another solid jobs report, three million jobs, the lowest unemployment rates in years, and the highest consumer and small business confidence ratings in decades, could end if Democrats takeover should scare any Republican to vote in November. In the Senate, it’s quite possible that we end up with a 50-50 split. And Sens. Murkowski (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME) could defect, derailing Trump’s nominee. Again, let’s see what happens after Monday. Maybe one or two red state Democrats will defect as well. We’ll see. But if the first meltdown over a SCOTUS retirement announcement was any taste of what's to come in this fight, just imagine when the Trump pick is finally revealed. It’ll be a character assassination like no other. The Democrat-media complex has already tried to smearthe potential nominees that have been floatedaround, as have actual Democrats, and they’ve backfired magnificently.

Amazing to see that some liberal radical types, now are hating on Justice Kennedy for having the audacity to retire.

After he gave them key deciding votes on some key issues such as homosexual marriage, now he’s dead to them.

who is going to be Ted Kennedy, and give the “Robert Bork’s America” speech, and try to derail the nomination right off the bat????

I think that speech is already written.

“In (fill in the blank name) America, women will be impaled on coat hangers. In fact (fill in the blank) is in favor of women being impaled on coat hangars. (fill in the blank) will take away all of our freedoms. (fill in the blank) will be a rubber stamp for the evil Trump agenda. (fill in the blank) wants to repeal the 1st amendment freedoms we all hold dear. (fill in the blank) will rubber stamp Trump locking children in cages.”

etc. etc

the speech is already written. They just have to fill in the name of the nominee.

I think that McConnell being attacked, while going to lunch, is basically going to solidify the GOP to elect whomever Trump picks.

I don’t like McConnell, but I can’t see him siding with Dems after that.

Why doesn't the “patriot”, the “maverick” drag his ass back to Washington, DC to vote for this? Clinging to this empty seat at a time when we need all hands on deck is a treasonous act.

I hope it happens again to him, just to drive the message home for sure to a squish like him.

How many hours of hearings will I have to set aside?

I hope it does solidify the GOP. Dems have to just suck it up and accept what happened in 2016. Senate Repubs had the power then and that is that. If they have the power and can stop this now then good for them. If not, take it and move on. There is way too much drama concerning these Supreme Court picks. Pick em, vote on em, if they win they win. The Dems don’t realize Obama could have chosen 100 nominees, but Repubs had the power to vote against them. Are we going to make it so the only vote that can be taken is on an off year of election. Dems simply cannot be happy unless they get their way, which means logically it won’t be good for America.

Susan Collins (R-ME) could defect, derailing Trump’s nominee. <<<

She's guaranteed to if her vote is the “critical” vote....

it's already baked into the cake....

Even more meltdowns to come. I saw a liberal friend repost and article on BaceFook speaking eloquently about Guth Ratter Binsburg and a friend of her's noted she was praying for her. Say What?...

The title is misleading, it is the continued meltdown over this one seat. I have no crystal ball, however Breyer is no spring chicken and Buth is really really getting up their and not looking well regardless of all the talk of her workout routine and surviving pancreatic cancer. Can you imagine if one of these two or Caygan with her health problems have to resign or pass on in the near future, what that melt down will be?

This will not be as big of a meltdown than when Trump gets to replace one of the clearly liberal justices in his next 6 years, which is very likely given the health issues of Kagan and Ginsburg.

I’m wondering that Kennedy didn’t choose the timing in hopes of giving the Democrats something to run on.

“Susan Collins (R-ME) could defect....”

Could? She’s an ultra liberal republican that hasn’t sided with the conservative party in her career. And she is not a critical vote. She isn’t that important to anyone as she continues to screw the conservative party so she is already figured against Trump. The only thing she can do different is vote conservative once. They’d have to bring out grief counselors for months to heal that one.

Rinos in a blue state are worth backing but only if the demonstrate a Profile In Courage on certain given votes from time to time. This is one of them. Don’t count on it.

Chris may not have noticed, but the Democrat Party base has shrunk. It’s now mostly minorities, single women and the LBGQ constituencies. Oh, and a few p-whipped ‘men’ like him. Not really a recipe for continued electoral success.

There’s no chance McConnell won’t push this through, just like he did with Gorsuch. McConnell isn’t the problem. Collins and Murkowski are the problem.
