The occupation of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters on the South Waterfront has over six days expanded from a scattering of chairs to a village of more than 80 tents, four portable toilets, six couches, a commissary and a medic's office.
The protest now closely resembles the Occupy Portland camps that seized two downtown parks in 2011. Once again, a Portland mayor has sanctioned the takeoverbut this time, the target is a federal agency, and the goal is to directly impede its work.
Mayor Ted Wheeler has pledged to not intervene with Occupy ICE, saying he considers the work of federal immigration agents "un-American" and doesn't want Portland police to aid ICE's operations.
The blockade would now be difficult to dislodge anyhow.
"We've seen tremendous support," says Mary Ann Warner, an occupation organizer. "We're seeing so much food. I don't think anyone's going hungry."
The protest, blocking the front doors and driveway of ICE's building along Southwest Macadam Avenue, has forced the suspension of agency work since June 18. The Portland occupation, the first nationwide, is an attempt to disrupt President Donald Trump's "zero tolerance" policy that has treated refugees seeking asylum as criminals and separated small children from their parents.
ICE shut down its Portland office after protesters blocked the entrance.

Shocking! In the name of sanity...what kind of people live in Washington state??
I read that Dems are getting worried because lefties are leaving blue states. They all must have moved to that state, which bears the name of a gold standard American.
I suppose we will have to accept the painful, horrible news along with all the good news the President is giving us.
I think Portland is not in Washington.
Time to give the federal order to the Oregon National Guard
My daughter was thinking of moving to Portland, and I tried to explain to her that it’s kinda a weird combination of Seattle and San Francisco located in Pasadena, CA but instead with a port attached.
A former Portland resident who overheard shook his head and said ‘it’s not really that nice. Think Santa Monica boardwalk gets mugged by Log Lady from Twin Peaks.
So, to me, it’s not really surprising that there’s an Occupy ICE in Portland. There’s thousands of Portland ‘homeless’ populating my area in California. It’s not that they can’t get a home, it’s that they choose to live without a home. (which honestly describes about 75% of all of California’s homeless; I may be very conservative in that number.)
So that Portland’s mayor might be happy to see ICE surrounded by tents (and a whole lot of tents now missing from more influential neighborhoods) is likely because there’s far less complaints to the mayor’s office over it.
I think a judge has already ruled against that approach.
Ever notice that vagrancy, disturbing the peace, and other local laws aren’t being enforced in these liberal cities?
Oregon, Washington they are both two peas in a pod.
Only one has a better name.
Time for some federal troops to make it known this horse “stuff” ends right here.
These people intend to shut down this government facility.
Shut them down instead with STIFF penalties.
Send in a semi truckload of street rats and turn ‘em loose in the middle of the tent city. Get some nice big ones.
If you would like more information about what's happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me.
I wonder if Trump could legally, thru DOJ, declare a “state of insurrection” for Portland, then arrest the mayor and his staff, federalize the police, and arrest all the “illegal” protestors who are blocking the functioning of a federal building/organization.
Then he could cut off all federal money/services to the city because a state of insurrection exists there and the city was illegally controlled by the insurrectionists by direct participation or by the indirect “do nothing” stance of their officials.
Anyone charged and convicted during this “insurrection” should be declared ineligible to work for the US government, receive any federal aid (tuition, food stamps, medical aid, EBT cards, Social Security checks - for the old reds who always infiltrate movements like these; etc.
Charge as many as they can with felonies, not misdemeanors which are useless sentences unless they are over 6 months long.
Tie their asses up in so many charges and court cases that they will have to build more courthouses, hire more judges and staff, and build more prisons to handle this situation.
Make Portland an example of what happens to a Marxist city when it tries to take on the U.S. Government. I’d love to see the mayor (and his Marxist predecessors too), frog-marched to court in stripes, convicted, and jailed.
Talk about “draining the swamp”, “taking out the trash”, and “cleaning up politics”. Do it right the first time, and do it “hard”.
Next Seattle, San Francisco, LA/Oakland, and all the sanctuary cities. Why should my tax dollars go to pay for rioters and lawbreakers from communists, anarchists, Democrats, “Raging Grannies”, to illegals, irredentists, reparationists, and downright political trash. “Political trash” are those people who make a profession out of disrupting society and who contribute nothing to the upholding of the law, civil discourse, intelligent conversation (there goes the Democrat Party membership), and who spread disease, drug use, and political insanity wherever they go.
No more Mr. Nice Guy. Time to call in The Terminator!
#43. Showing bayonets is not good for PR purposes. However, using nausea gas to knock the crap out of the illegal protestors is cool. Makes for great photos. This way we can rightfully say that these leftists are “full of shit”.
Gee. I don’t suppose the Feds will give them the Ammon Bundy treatment.
Any hope some FBI flunkiw will plug one or two in the back?
Oh. Wait.
Kinds forgot they only do that to Conservatives.
In that first photo, one could have some good 3AM fun — using a switch engine with a loud diesel engine, a very loud horn and a bright headlight... ‘-)

..... Wish they would ..... Be fun to watch ....
Do they have jobs or other things like kids for which to care? How can they sit out there all day, every day?
The feds should have cleared the trash, so ICE could do its work.
where is the match?
And are simply enforcing the laws of the United States in Oregon from a different location. Go pitch a tent, Portland.
God bless these Officers and their difficult, thankless work.
