Supermarket giant Walmart has long lauded itself on its low prices and discounts, as evidenced by the tagline "Save Money. Live Better." A duo in New Orleans allegedly took that slogan too literally when they brought cut-out price tags into a Walmart store in order to buy goods at a lower price, police said.
On May 25, Jeffrey Johnson, 49, and Leilani Walther, 50, were observed on surveillance video using false Universal Product Code labels to purchase goods at a lesser price at a Walmart at 4001 Behrman Place in Algiers. The duo is suspected of cutting UPC labels from other merchandise and carrying them into the store. They then purchase goods at a self-chosen discount via the self-check lanes, according to NOPD.

Walmart is the closest thing to working for the government the private sector has. Except the government has no concept of stop loss and budgets. Big and slow but when they catch on it's a sudden draconian all encompassing change.
That’s funny. Digital Abbie Hoffman in “Steal This Book”.
“This is f’ing awesome!”
Didn’t care for the price, yada, yada, yada...
No J. Pennypacker and his pricing gun? I was expecting that, at least......;)
Are these free?
Machu Picchu....
Trust me. Walmart has been installing systems where the receipt will be tied to video of your check out.
I know someone involved in the sale of such systems. I described to a local guy years ago. He works (still does) for a very large, well-known convenience/gas station organization.
He later told me he went to training on this - they’re getting the same system.
Schadenfreude for the self-check-out idea.
[They then purchase goods at a self-chosen discount via the self-check lanes, according to NOPD]
Sometimes, there are people watching the self-checkouts, live, in WM.
I witnessed a Latino girl/woman (maybe about 25). She tried scanning not all of her products at self-checkout. She was maybe 15-20 feet away from me at the time. I can still remember what checkout she was at and in what store.
There were 2 off-duty policemen, IN UNIFORM, standing no more than 10-15 feet from her. They called down, she was arrested and handcuffed in front of me - she didn’t make it but about 10 feet from the checkout.
Like the thieves who wrap a cheap greeting card around a more expensive one, and then go to the self check out. Crooks dream up a million ways to scam the system.
Carrots, lots of carrots, more than the stores had on hand, were being "sold" at the self-checkouts...
I think the produce type was entered by the "customer". So what it if was 10 lbs of langostines, a rack of lamb, or whatever?
J. Pennypacker!!! A wealthy industrialist!!
sounds like there are issues with self checkout, as people try to cheat.
I can imagine someone with a full shopping cart, and they “forget” to scan a few items.
RFID tags will all but eliminate that.
Some installed already in the U.S.A. Few, at the moment.

Correct. FWIW, my comments at 8 and 14.
They dont call the self- checkouts Thieving lanes for nothing.
Self checkout is probably one of the dumbest things to be implemented.
You wait in line behind people who cant use machines. Then any savings the store gets from not paying minimum wage clerks is wiped out multifold by thefts
ny Neighborhood Walmart had 6-7 people working the check out. Now they have two. Their system is easy to use. I don’ts the problem you luddites see.
Luddites lol
I have never been in the ultra top secret video room they have but from the people I knew that had it was awesome. They could not talk about it though. Those pictures walmart releases of bad folks? Low res right? Wrong! Walmart has very hi-res they just don't want too many people knowing. LEOs know.
One thing about walmart is they are very forgiving. If they fire you they will hire you back, depending on the severity. I think they figure it cost more to re-hire and train a new person than it does to re-hire a thief. They probably have an algorithm they run on this. Usually after 90 days to a year they will re-hire you but maybe not the same store though.
