ny Neighborhood Walmart had 6-7 people working the check out. Now they have two. Their system is easy to use. I don’ts the problem you luddites see.

Longer wait times, more thefts and fewer jobs. I consult for many retail stores and they are mostly considering cutting back.

With a cashier you wait for someone that does it all day for a living. With selfcheckout you wait in line for multiple people that mostly cant use the machines. Then the constant errors and headaches come.

To keep the line moving during busy times, the attendants always override the antitheft devices. If you arent dressed like a bum, you can walk out with hundreds of dollars in merch easily. It’s a joke

I like the selfcheckout, too. As for theft, these have an upside as well. I suspect the embarrassing items are the most shop-lifted (condoms, suppositories, yeast infection treatments, etc.).

The stuff we buy can be very personal. It's normal to not want a cashier eyeballing your stuff.
