Bowl food is exactly what it sounds like; food in a bowl. Were not sure what the craze is all about, but it seems to be all over Instagram. And it might have something to do with the royal wedding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did serve bowl food, after all, when they tied the knot. Their royal lunch included pea and mint risotto, chicken fricassee and a slow-roasted pork belly, served with apple compote and crackling. So what exactly is bowl food and where has it come from?
Bowl food is larger than a canapé and about a quarter of the size of the main course. Its served in mini or hand-sized bowls with food that can be easily eaten with a fork in one hand. The idea behind a bowl food menu is that guests can stay standing up and mingle while they eat, as they would with finger food. Some caterers have described it as an option which allows guests to keep on talking. So, probably not a good idea to put steak in a bowl then. But older guests might want to have a seat and dig in.
As with most aesthetically-pleasing things, Instagram is giving a lot of love and attention to the bowl food trend. And most users have been piling on the bowl long before the royal nuptials. Avocado-loving millennials have decorated many a bowl with delicacies of their choice, from breakfast foods like eggs, porridge, fruit salads, to main meals like rice and curry, dumplings, chicken, and soup.
It makes for some pretty pictures too, with some going all out to garnish their bowls, with plenty of colourful fruits and vegetables. So if youre in the kitchen, hurry, theres a bowl that needs decorating. Whats next, plate food? Drink cups? Youll probably find it on Instagram soon.
That’s what I was thinking................we have a local Taco restaurant that serves a huge Taco Salad and it’s less than $4!.................
Don’t ever ask what ‘SOS’ is........................
Chicken Fricassee is defined as humble French comfort food that everyone’s grandmother makes. Well, that sure did press the talents of palace chefs.
Peas and rice, yawn. Parmesan chips is nothing but nuked cheese which William and Kate’s toddlers could master.
Wow, put a pork belly in the oven and forget about it over night. Doesn’t almost everyone serve apples with pork? More an autumn dish than springtime. And cracklings, hahahahaha! So very royal wedding-ish, not.
‘Bowl Food’ is a restaurant trend that’s been around for several years:

A rack of ribs wouldn’t fit.
Betcha this ‘bowl food’ is halal.
The royal wedding served bowel food and its all over Instagram but what is it?
What are y’all complaining about?
I’ve had bowl food at parties and it is usually great!
Small enough to walk around with and you can always go back for another. It is also a great way to try yummy exotic food. If you don’t like it, put it down and try something else!
Some people aren’t happy unless they’re complainin’... Just sayin’....
It looks better than the left over Chinese I’m having for lunch........
It is called cultural diversity, you insensitive elite. :)
Wow. Really healthy and boring-looking food.
roasted Windsor pork belly with apple compote and crackling
that does not sound healthy
Royal Chambermaid residue?
Maybe the pork was really chitlins for Meghan’s relatives.
I have to confess that I’ve never enjoyed the taste or texture of burned cheese. It’s like the old gag: “Parmesan crisps” are burned cheese with a PR agent.
First paragraph of the story:
Their royal lunch included pea and mint risotto, chicken fricassee and a slow-roasted pork belly, served with apple compote and crackling.
Indigestible as well.
It is also known as Trail Mix and readily available at Aldi markets.....
My Dad was infantry in WWII. His favorite breakfast was SOS, made messhall style with chipped beef over toast.
I saw no resemblance to a scouring pad. Years later I learned what SOS stood for.
;^)
No matter what you call it, I love it!...................
