As Sweden moves ever closer to a cashless economy, tourists are starting to complain, according to state promotion agency Visit Sweden.
Ewa Lagerqvist, the agencys chief executive, told Swedens TT newswire that Germans, who frequently use cash at home, expect to be able to do so in Sweden as well. The Germans want to avoid the charges which banks take out on card payments, but they also cite deep-rooted privacy concerns when they consider why they want to be able to use cash, she said. For the Brits, its more purely the bank charges which annoy them. Tourists also complain that some payment systems only work with Swedish credit cards, excluding foreign consumers.
The complaint comes as Swedens Swish Payment system suffered a serious outage on Saturday, underlining the limits of a cash-free world for those who had been relying on the service for summer flea markets held across the country. The problem, which started at around 1 pm, was resolved after a few hours.
More and more cafés, restaurants and bars in Sweden are going cash free, hoping to save staff time, reduce the risk of them pilfering from the till, and to stop violent robberies.

That's not a bug. It's a feature.
They are going to force this on us as time goes by. Resist.
I was an advocate for Apple Pay and similar services when it came out, because it was far more secure than using a credit card.
My take is that if you are going to use a cashless system like a credit card, the more secure, the better.
However, I am dead set against the concept of a “cashless society”. Anyone who is for it, and there are a lot of them, have never taken the time to think it through.
I am sure there are the spouses of a lot of shop-a-holics who would agree!
.
Apple Pay = Beast Pay.
Not really. It is a service, nothing more.
It won’t be force. It’ll just happen. Cash sucks for businesses. High in risk, time consuming, and filled with colds. Resistance is futile, the future will happen.
Total control by the bankers and the trans-national elites.
All you'll need is his diabolical "mark" and your automatically "a member of his club" and can buy and sell anything: How "convenient" and "cool" they will make it all sound.
The one thing they won't tell you is that EVERYONE who "takes the mark" is automatically damned and ultimately destined for a Christless eternity in The Lake of Fire where they will dwell in unspeakable torment forever!
I understand the privacy concerns but when we went to Europe a few years ago (before credit cards were accepted virtually everywhere), we paid a ton of money to exchange from one currency to another.
The exchange payment to the credit card company would’ve been much less, though not zero.
Instead of pilfering from the till there is outright fees from the charge card companies.

Some have heavy eyelids.
And that’s not a bug, it’s a feature
The problem is a card can never be totally secure because it can be stolen. But “The Mark of the Beast” on the back of your hand or forehead can never be stolen... of course you lose your eternal soul but you can buy and sell stuff.
“Oh joy!” Sarcasm off.
only a handful of countries
can afford to close-down their
cash-based informal economy
Sweden might be one of them.
And the added benefit for the STATE is if they dont like you, they can shut you down with the flip of a switch.
How convenient.
When did that become a problem? Does it have to do with all the muzzies they imported into their country?
