Former Dallas Cowboy Lincoln Coleman Found Safe After Forgetting Where He Parked

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Missing since Friday, former Dallas Cowboys running back Lincoln Coleman was found safe on Tuesday morning, according to Dallas Police.

Investigators were worried about his diminished mental capacity and his need for medical help.

Coleman’s agent and friend of 15 years, Christopher Randolph, said Coleman had parked his car at a church three blocks from his house.

He said Coleman could not figure out where he left his car or how to get home.

Randolph said on Tuesday at about 4 a.m., Coleman returned home but was confused about what happened.

“We were worried about him freezing. Obviously him getting jumped, mugged you know? Car stolen,” said Randolph. “He’s a big man and he can take care of himself, but when he’s in that condition, you don’t know what he’s thinking or you’re thinking someone can take advantage of him.”

He said the incident was due to a combination of dementia, bipolar disorder and all the concussions he suffered during his career as an NFL running back.

“Sometimes when he has bad days, he just wonders off. He gets confused and then he gets frustrated and that kind of exacerbates itself into a problem where he just doesn’t know where to go, he gets lost so to speak,” said Randolph.

Coleman was awarded a settlement with the NFL due to his injuries.

The claim is filed but the payment is still pending.

Randolph said Coleman needs the funds to help pay for continuous care, supervision and medicine.

I was at my best friend’s bachelor party sampling everything in his parents’ liquor cabinet - that part I remember. The next morning, I woke up on their sofa and immediately thought ‘where’s my car?’ and I sat up quickly to look out the window at which time it felt like someone hit my head with a sledge hammer. Later, I remembered where I parked my car.

The first symptom of Alzheimer’s experienced by the wife of a friend was that she had to pull over several blocks from home and didn’t know where she was. From that point on it was a steady decline until her death several years after she no longer recognized her family. Very sad.

LOL!.....That reminds me of what happened to my wife and I a couple of years ago.

We were eating lunch in a restaurant, sitting by the main front window, and we could see our car, a Lincoln Town Car, parked about ten yards away. This woman comes out of the Winn-Dixie, with her cart full of groceries and tries to open our car! Her Key Fob Remote didn’t work, then she tried the trunk and it wouldn’t open. She tried the key in the door and it wouldn’t work. She was obviously getting frustrated and tried to peek into the windows which are dark tinted. Then it dawned upon her that THIS WAS NOT HER CAR! She frantically looked around the parking lot and her car, same color and model, was parked over on the next line. She looked about to see if anybody was watching and quickly ran with her cart to the correct car..........I could have set off the alarm from where I was sitting, but didn’t. I just watched the show.............

One wonders how the league is working on game rule modifications and comprehensively improving helmet technology? - Blue Jays
Actually I think the best thing they can do is to go back to leather helmets, which would encourage proper tackling form.
There is also the argument that safety features in automobiles simply encourage drivers to be less cautious. According to the theory, instead of padding the middle of the steering wheel with air bags you should put a spear point on the center of the steering wheel. That would focus the driver’s mind about how important it is to not have an accident in the first place.

The mantra taught to football defenders is “see what you hit.” That is because hitting something relatively solid - like the hip of a ball carrier - with the top of your helmet is how you get a compression fracture of a vertebrae in the neck, becoming a quadriplegic.

But if you think about it, if you don’t have a face mask on your helmet and you collide with a relatively solid object, “see what you hit” amounts to “get your teeth knocked out."

I just bought a 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The UConnect app on my phone will let me pull up my vehicle’s location with scary accuracy, right down to the exact parking space. It’s a very nice feature in a big mall, airport or stadium parking lot.

It happens.
I once left for a three-week trip to China. On the way home, I got a call and was re-routed to Mexico for two more weeks. When I got back, I couldn’t find my car in long-term parking. Finally called airport services and they helped me find it about a half-mile away.

I still have nightmares about not finding my car.

There’s an urban legend (probably) about the woman who couldn’t find her car in the parking lot at the mall, reported it stolen, got a replacement out of the insurance settlement, only to have Sears Auto Center call some time later and ask if she was ever going to come pick her car up from her last appointment at their facility.

...instead of padding the middle of the steering wheel with air bags you should put a spear point on the center of the steering wheel.

Those old rigid steering columns WERE spear points when you hit them at 60+ MPH.

Not a booze story, but true and no casualties. Sometimes I get very tired on a long auto trip and pull off in a safe place to get some sleep. When I do, I always take the keys out of the ignition to make sure I don’t suddenly wake up while half asleep, start the vehicle, and drive into an immediate collision.
