DETROIT (WXYZ) - On this day in history, 50 years ago, black sanitation workers marched in Memphis protesting unsafe working conditions and low wages. Protesters marked the day by marching in front of a McDonald's in Detroit.
Low income workers including cooks, cashiers, janitors, and hospital workers marched with their supporters from the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial park to the McDonalds on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit.
We hope to have our voices heard and have some of our needs meet, so we can make it in society in this economy, said Darrell Bonner, Lead Custodian Detroit Public Schools Community District.

Close it.
Shutup and get back to work.
McDonalds workers will soon be replaced with automation. This will hasten the automation.
Well, when the layoffs start so the payroll will stay basically the same and then the prices will go up to cover the cost of the minimum wage, that clerk in McDs will see there are no more Dollar meals, senior discounts, cheap prices etc which will end up with fewer customers and then the store will find 3 can run the shift more efficiently than 7. Of course, when quality of service goes down because they are overloaded, people will just go elsewhere.
Company I worked for back in the 70s would begrudgingly give a .25 raise and hold off on OT for a week or so, to get his quarter back....
When the guy cleaning the terlets and sweeping the floor of the bar is now making 15 bucks, the bartender will demand 20 and the cook/chef 25 so now that ‘home crafted beer’ will be 8 dollars a bottle rather than 4...
No wonder ‘they’ don’t want to teach economy & letting people know that actions bring results, sometimes not quite what you are looking for.
Didn’t Nixon have a wage & food freeze?
People would have to QUIT and get hired back the next day for more money and all sorts of ‘new’ old products were ‘invented’ to circumvent the freeze....
Build a better mousetrap and the mouse eventually gets smarter.
So long as you're sure about it.
Lets say you are open on average 10 hours a day and you have 4 employees working at any given time. A $1.00 raise per employee will translate into $40.00 more per day or $14,600.00 per year. Throw in an additional 7% in FICA taxes and you have around $15,700.00 per year. Liberals however can’t do math.
This way we can induce employers to hire robot kiosks
which require no human interaction, and don't take lunch breaks
and are less costly per hour than humans.
Even a $5,000.00 kiosk will pay for itself in 3 months or less.
Give it to them and then watch over half of them lose whatever job they had in the first place.
Demand such a wage in a town that has been chronically short of jobs. Brilliant.
Let them have at it.
A “Win~Win” in the making.
The idiots’ absence will speed the advent of Kiosks and a slight abatement of Detroit’s pre~ordained bankruptcy.
The “reporter” Kim Russell is nothing but a sympathetic propagandist along with the rest of the WXYZ staff................
They should just all move to California in another year or two they’ll have their $15 dream. Of course there dumbasses will be replaced by robots. But hey I’m sure the welfare benefits in California are better than Detroit. The downward spiral of the once Golden State continues.
I guess they want to drive out what few jobs are left.
And historical fact shows that that March did not turn out very well for Detroit. They swallowed the socialism koolaid, marched in protests, unionized and turned the most prosperous city in America into a poverty stricken war zone.
Yeah, that socialism turned out well, said no man ever...
Psst...if you think those ordering kiosks at McDonald’s are there to play ‘Candy Crush’, libs, you are mistaken. $15/hour for what? Can you speak English correctly? Do you wear pants at the waist, not under your ass? Do you have piercings and/or tattoos on your face? Sorry, but no...
Yet another group seeking to be replaced by automation.
If they spent less time marching and more time working, they might be worth bigger paychecks....Reminds me of the guy interviewing for a job and being told, by the company owner, that he would be given a shot. He asked the owner what the pay was, and was told, “I’ll pay you what you’re worth.” The prospect answered, “I can’t live on that.”.....
