DETROIT (WXYZ) - On this day in history, 50 years ago, black sanitation workers marched in Memphis protesting unsafe working conditions and low wages. Protesters marked the day by marching in front of a McDonald's in Detroit.
Low income workers including cooks, cashiers, janitors, and hospital workers marched with their supporters from the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial park to the McDonalds on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit.
We hope to have our voices heard and have some of our needs meet, so we can make it in society in this economy, said Darrell Bonner, Lead Custodian Detroit Public Schools Community District.

And I seriously doubt any of the people whinging for a $15/hr minimum wage will be installing and/or servicing the kiosks that will replace them. God, these people are ignorant.
Fools doing the bidding of those who want to oppress them.
Minimum wage is one of the most insidius ways to keep a population poor and oppressed. It drives away jobs, and hurts most the most vulnerable in our society: the young and the elderly.
Minimum wage is Not a living wage. It is a starting wage, a supplemental wage.
If they want more money the should ask for a raise.
Instead of cashiers, the touchscreens are cheaper. Next, a machine to put together your burger and fries.
They need to slim down the menu further, but I'm going to guess that by 2020 you will have close to fully automated McDonald's places.
>>McDonalds workers will soon be replaced with automation. This will hasten the automation.<<
Someone should introduce them to the concept of marginal cost. If a robot costs $12 an hour (all in), then a human is the correct economic choice until the human costs $12 an hour — all things being equal a robot is better.
AFTER that decision makes itself. At $15 a $12 robot becomes cheap.
At DFW they have gone to all kiosks in the MacDonalds.
Ummm, Detroit. Might wanna give DC a call on this subject. :-)
I’m amazed at how there is such a lack of intelligence on this. If you don’t like your job, get another one. If you are disruptive at your job, you’ll lose it. Except when unions are involved, which is was too often, I don’t think the employees set the standards. Two weeks notice, look at monster.com.
