A man was spotted with a cat on the hood of his SUV earlier this week, and people who saw it thought it was not only weird but perhaps it was a case of animal cruelty. But the owner of the cat, Jesse Dorsett Jr., said his three felines, Pixie, Dixie and Mister Jinks, love going for rides.

This guy is a total jerk and guilty of animal cruelty. First of all, the cats’ eyes are then exposed to wind and particulates, which can dry and irritate them. Secondly and most obvious, if he hits the brakes, they would slide off and perhaps be run over by his own vehicle or another passing car. Third, they are a driver distraction. This guy certainly has S for B.
You are right about this.
In my area, there used to be a guy who rode his motorcycle with his cat; claimed the cat ‘liked’ it.
A cat CAN be like a dog in some ways - trusting its owner enough to do whatever is asked. That doesn’t mean that it’s good for the pet or that they are enjoying it.
I feel the same way when I see people riding on bikes, with their dog on a leash trying to keep up. Dogs aren’t made for that kind of long distance jogging; they’re only doing it because Master asked for it.
If they're doing it, they're liking it. Or they wouldn't be doing it.
And if they didn't like it, they certainly wouldn't do it twice.

I think it depends on the cat and its experience and the environment that it’s used to.
There are a lot of timid cats who don’t have experience outside of a very controlled environment. They might just hang on for dear life because they don’t know what else to do.
It’s a very endangering thing to do to the cat. And for what reason is the guy doing it?
Don’t give Mitt Romney any ideas.
Concur. I have two cats that were found as kittens, just days away from death. We have a pet door, so they come and go as they please. I have seen them sleeping in the rain, sleeping in the snow, and one cat will refuse to move even for a very loud vacuum cleaner. But try to put them in a transport box and you have a fight on your hands. You have to wear leather work gloves and throw a towel over them. Oh yes, be ready for sounds that belong in a horror movie. Let them out of the transport box, they do an immediate reset and want food, or to be petted or go to sleep.
I once had a pet crow that would hang on to the (static) windshield wipers and go for a ride.
I expect he went to get in his car one time and the cat was on the hood. He backed up, expecting the cat to jump off, and it stayed.
Car hoods are very easy to jump off. There is no way to make it stay if it wants to jump. If the cat had wanted to, it would have.
I just don't see how it held on at turns and stops. I guess it did, though.
I used to take a kitten on my shoulder into the grocery store with me. She liked it up there. Same theory.
p.s. I can't believe I'm arguing about a cat on a car hood. I guess I'll argue about anything. Life can be so boring.
:)
Haha. I would like to see that.
Cats dont drive the car. Cats are the superior species. Chauffeuring for all its honorable ness is still work. Work is, by very definition, beneath cats dignity. Work is for inferior species ( humans).
Lamest thread EVER.
Hood...warm...
LOL
I had totally forgotten about that
bagster, as a cat owner I can attest to exactly what you are saying. A cat will not do anything unless it wants to. I’ve found they are trainable, but to things only they really want to do. They are extremely affectionate, but not dumb-ass loyal to a master like a dog.
As a society we have been slowly conditioned over the last few decades that just about anything is cruel, racist, dangerous, climate-harmful - you name it.
Personally, I’d never have our cat ride on a car hood. But I believe as man we are in charge of animals, and if an animal willingly rides a hood, it’s just none of anyone elses business.
:)
Oh, yea fini. I gave up trying to make cats do it my way a long time ago. I like my pretty skin.
Wonderful! He drives better than many humans, too. Thanks
