If they're doing it, they're liking it. Or they wouldn't be doing it.
And if they didn't like it, they certainly wouldn't do it twice.

I think it depends on the cat and its experience and the environment that it’s used to.
There are a lot of timid cats who don’t have experience outside of a very controlled environment. They might just hang on for dear life because they don’t know what else to do.
It’s a very endangering thing to do to the cat. And for what reason is the guy doing it?
Concur. I have two cats that were found as kittens, just days away from death. We have a pet door, so they come and go as they please. I have seen them sleeping in the rain, sleeping in the snow, and one cat will refuse to move even for a very loud vacuum cleaner. But try to put them in a transport box and you have a fight on your hands. You have to wear leather work gloves and throw a towel over them. Oh yes, be ready for sounds that belong in a horror movie. Let them out of the transport box, they do an immediate reset and want food, or to be petted or go to sleep.
I once had a pet crow that would hang on to the (static) windshield wipers and go for a ride.
bagster, as a cat owner I can attest to exactly what you are saying. A cat will not do anything unless it wants to. I’ve found they are trainable, but to things only they really want to do. They are extremely affectionate, but not dumb-ass loyal to a master like a dog.
As a society we have been slowly conditioned over the last few decades that just about anything is cruel, racist, dangerous, climate-harmful - you name it.
Personally, I’d never have our cat ride on a car hood. But I believe as man we are in charge of animals, and if an animal willingly rides a hood, it’s just none of anyone elses business.
