National Transportation Safety Board investigators are looking into the crash of a Tesla into a fire engine on the 405 Freeway after local firefighters said the Tesla driver told them the car was on Autopilot at the time of the collision.

The luxury car slammed into the back of the fire engine while traveling at a speed of 65 mph on Monday, Culver City firefighters tweeted. No injuries were reported, but a day later, the collision had managed to draw the attention of federal investigators.

In an Instagram post, the Culver City firefighters’ union said the Tesla “plowed into the rear of Engine 42” while crews were responding to a downed motorcycle on the 405 Freeway.

“Not until someone is killed will there be pressure to go back to the drawing board. “

It will only take one baby in a carriage for the parents to sue deep pockets Tesla/GM/Google into submission.

The sentient Tesla vehicle sensed that its battery was about to burst into flames and headed straight for the closest resource that could save its life.

A first responder could easily have been killed.

I want action, not investigation.

These need to be pulled off the roads and Tesla’s AP disabled until the systems are fully-vetted.

Last Tesla I saw was parked by the side of a highway near here for a couple days. Maybe it ran out of volts and the driver had to walk to the nearest volt station for a can...

They are not driverless. That is a marketing lie. The manufacturer tells you that there must be a licensed driver in the driver’s seat who must be ready to take over at any time. That is not driverless.

There is no way to stop this stupidity. They are not going to listen to us. The manufacturers are going to woo the politicians who see in it another way to control the public and to gather data that they can use to tax the hell out of the public.

Was Autopilot drunk or high ?

...

The driver was cited for being drunk. Tesla makes it clear that an attentive driver has to be at the wheel when using autopilot.

“Was Autopilot drunk or high ?”.

Neither, it was “texting”. Does it really make a difference? There should be NO AUTO Pilot cars on the road. Next thing we hear some lawyer will plead his client as “innocent” since the car was driving, not his client.

Is Auto Pilot required to take a drivers test either written and actual road test while driving?

Was the car in communication with the satellite at that time? In other words, was the car texting at the time of the accident?

There has to be video black box in these things while they are being tested.

Like in airlines.

Watch a Tesla on autopilot rear-end a stopped vehicle that a human-driven car has no trouble avoiding:
