Couple launches completely clear 'bubble' tents in secret secluded locations

...'There was a meteor shower as well and we had this profound experience. But after the tour we went home and couldn't sleep under the stars so we took blankets out to a pontoon on the lake in freezing weather so we could look at the sky.

'We were just thinking about how amazing it would be to stay under the stars but there wasn't anything like that available so when we came back to Australia we decided to try and replicate the experience we had for others.'

The couple started looking up bubble tents - completely clear inflatable tents - overseas in January, 2017, and began scouting out potential locations.

'We wanted it to be a two to four hour band from Sydney so pollution wasn't an issue but it was still close enough and we wanted to make sure the stargazing would be perfect,' Sonny said.

But then you have guts. I don’t. I would have adored having your courage and lack of fear of the unknown. It’s something I admire so greatly. I read my grandfather’s stories of prospecting and it’s like reading science fiction. A world I can barely imagine. The nights must have been beautiful where you were.

We are often 75-100 miles from a large source of artificial light and at 7-9,000 feet. The Milky Way is awe inspiring with those conditions. Once about 7 years ago I woke up at about 4:300am to answer the call of nature. When I shined my flashlight over the tailgate to make sure there was no snakes I noticed a fresh set of Mt. Lion tracks on top of my tracks from the prior evening. He was just sniffing around to see what we were.

As far as brave goes. I used to tent camp when I was very young and one night the next tent over got raided by a bear in the middle on the night. The tent fabric didn’t even slow him down. So I decided to not drag a tent along. It does save set-up and take down time.

I always take a double bed with a headboard and composting toilet with vanity sink with me when I go tent camping. Doesn’t everyone?

I’m waiting for transparent aluminum before I build mine.

Liking the wood.

We leave the huge living room windows open most of the time and wave/gesture at the lookie loos. It’s boat traffic so anyone moving along slowly is a guaranteed lookie loo. Yes, the dogs would eat them if they got too close. But the bedroom curtains being open sends them hollering even if no one is in there. Same side of house and two feet from the living room windows but seeing a bed somehow brings out the perv in them.

LOL, everyone is traumatized by Bambi.

There’s a blue heron who’s decided to visit the yard the past few days. He’s really something to watch.

>>There’s a blue heron who’s decided to visit the yard

That's exciting!

We don't get anything exotic. Even our wildlife is just skunks, possums and raccoons at night. They all eat happily together. And one skunk FINALLY figured out how to climb the stepladder to the food table, but fell off. I cannot describe my guilt to you that the table doesn't have a little fence. We put heat lamps in the garage in the winter, and leave the window partially open, then put beds around the space.

Grandfather also wrote a few articles on birds:

No bear is going to get through that! Tell me when they’re available.

I actually liked that movie.

I’m massively in love with wood. I love the smell of it and the feel of it. I loved every hour I sanded and watched that grain come alive. I designed the little bathroom so that the pieces of cherry plywood were small enough that I could lift them and then spent days moving them around the lawn to follow the sun so that they’d darken. Do you do anything with wood yourself?

No woodworking. Back when I was broke and just starting life on my own, I scoured yard sales for real wooden furniture. Mainly antiques. Hey, if they’ve lasted 100 years, they’ll last a few more. Always had some piece in the process of refinishing. That bedroom with the window with a view is furnished with Charles Eastlake. The desk I’m typing on isn’t as old but refinished as well. It’s interesting to see different type woods and grains take finishes.

I think refinishing is woodwork!

Eastlake is exciting. More delicate than a lot of carved furniture, but still solid. Must be wonderful. I can imagine refinishing Stickley faster than Eastlake!

I insisted that we go to the Grand Canyon hotel because I read that the lobby was originally furnished in Stickley. Never once occurred to me that they might have redecorated. After all, who would give up Stickley??? Couldn’t find a single person who knew what I was talking about.

I don’t have the skill for refinishing antiques. That takes a level of patience that is beyond me but which impresses me terribly. I sent everything off to refinishing places, like a wondrous elderly gentleman in a tiny NH town. He made oak glow.

I love your description of your home on the navigable waterway. Much more interesting than cars going by.

Now if I could only convince husband to let me work on the living room. Thank you, orange. It was a labor of love. Doubt I’ll ever design another room beyond what we’ve done, but it was such joy. I’ve made so many mistakes over the decades experimenting. I tried stripping the insulation off a heating pipe going to the 2nd floor and then putting in high and low vents to let the air into the dining room. Worked just like you’d expect. Made the 2nd floor colder. Then I put a fan behind the radiator in the dining room and closed it in with rattan. Only the fan was so powerful that it only pushed out cold air. And the rattan needed to be sprayed with water every day so it wouldn’t dry out. But it’s all been fun.

This is poplar. Really worth playing with. But you only find these boards as rejects at the back of the Lowes or Home Depot wood bins. Seal the wood FIRST with waxfree shellac. THEN use a polystain that goes on over sealant. End with a water-based urethane that won't yellow. Much.
