No woodworking. Back when I was broke and just starting life on my own, I scoured yard sales for real wooden furniture. Mainly antiques. Hey, if they’ve lasted 100 years, they’ll last a few more. Always had some piece in the process of refinishing. That bedroom with the window with a view is furnished with Charles Eastlake. The desk I’m typing on isn’t as old but refinished as well. It’s interesting to see different type woods and grains take finishes.
I think refinishing is woodwork!
Eastlake is exciting. More delicate than a lot of carved furniture, but still solid. Must be wonderful. I can imagine refinishing Stickley faster than Eastlake!
I insisted that we go to the Grand Canyon hotel because I read that the lobby was originally furnished in Stickley. Never once occurred to me that they might have redecorated. After all, who would give up Stickley??? Couldn’t find a single person who knew what I was talking about.
I don’t have the skill for refinishing antiques. That takes a level of patience that is beyond me but which impresses me terribly. I sent everything off to refinishing places, like a wondrous elderly gentleman in a tiny NH town. He made oak glow.
I love your description of your home on the navigable waterway. Much more interesting than cars going by.
