I’m massively in love with wood. I love the smell of it and the feel of it. I loved every hour I sanded and watched that grain come alive. I designed the little bathroom so that the pieces of cherry plywood were small enough that I could lift them and then spent days moving them around the lawn to follow the sun so that they’d darken. Do you do anything with wood yourself?

No woodworking. Back when I was broke and just starting life on my own, I scoured yard sales for real wooden furniture. Mainly antiques. Hey, if they’ve lasted 100 years, they’ll last a few more. Always had some piece in the process of refinishing. That bedroom with the window with a view is furnished with Charles Eastlake. The desk I’m typing on isn’t as old but refinished as well. It’s interesting to see different type woods and grains take finishes.
