Senate Republican leadership is calling for Alabama GOP candidate Roy Moore to step down as the party's nominee if new allegations of his inappropriate sexual conduct against a 14-year old girl in 1979 are true.
Both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) released brief statements on Thursday, shortly after The Washington Post published the allegations.
"If these allegations are true, he must step aside," McConnell said.
Gardner's statement echoed that from McConnell.
The allegations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore are deeply troubling, he said. If these allegations are found to be true, Roy Moore must drop out of the Alabama special Senate election.

I never answer their phone calls and throw all their mailings in the trash.
I assume that Alabama doesn't have a sore-loser law then.
Please be quiet Mitch.

Only if Bill Clinton goes to prison for seducing “Miss Lewinsky”.
The GOPe want to throw the seat to the Dems, obviously. They have no intention of supporting POTUS. It’s way past time he threatened them and their families with personal political destruction. Then salt the earth.
I remember them saying the same thing when Trump was being accused as well.
Wow, they’re really going to throw the Alabama seat. Unbelievable!this party is dead
BS METER 1. Story didn’t exist until just before election. 2. Accusation didn’t exist for the last 38 yrs. 3. Broken by Washington Composte to put Dem in Senate. 4. No voter will ever know the truth. 5.Therefore the truth is irrelevant to the voters, but the political consequences are dire. 6. Stories like this, work cause country is full if stupid people.
Why not wait to comment until all the evidence is in?
This will all sound real familiar to Justice Clarence Thomas. What a crock.
If he’s convicted of the crime then the discussion can start. If illegals deserve due process why doesn’t a judge?
Thune has turned into a little bi#ch.
GOPe predictable like the rising sun. Nutty accusation from 40 years ago has no credibility nor should it.
This supposedly happened in 1979?
I am not sure I remember what I was doing on a given day in 1979 and the name of any casual person I met
Be nice to pictures or a written letter for proof.
Did a bit of research on Judge Moore and was surprised to learn he was a 1969 graduate of US Military Academy At West Point and a Vietnam vet.
Mitch, you ignorant slut ....
YOU’RE the one who should resign in disgrace. WHAT, exactly, have you accomplished in the past year???
And what is Turkeyneck going to do if the allegation is not true?
Notice all the Democrats work. They have a playbook. They pull it out. Until we get a handle on the media problem in this country, we will ALWAYS be at a disadvantage. The press is free to libel and smear and hide behind the New York Times v. Sullivan decision, and nothing can be done to them. It is virtually impossible to win a case under the insane “actual malice” standard that the Supreme Court invented whole cloth. What are we going to do? Let the Washington Compost and the New York Slimes run the country? Journalists are the vilest of the evil swamp creatures. They lie, connive, smear, and do it with a smug attitude. They know that they have a virtual monopoly on the public attention. Think about it, the most conservative local stations and papers in the nation still run AP (ass press) stories.
We have to do something about the media stranglehold.
We can’t let them get away with these tactics. They only use because they often work.
This girl, a woman now I guess, has no evidence. No substantiated facts. No witnesses. Nothing. They are just allegations with nothing to support them.
This is not even believable. All it does is give the GOP establishment a chance to berate Moore, who they hate.
So there is no "if" these allegations are true because nothing can be proved 40 years later. She said, he denied. That should be the end of it.
