McConnell: Moore should step down if allegations true
The Hill ^ | 11/09/2017 | Ben Kamisar

Senate Republican leadership is calling for Alabama GOP candidate Roy Moore to step down as the party's nominee if new allegations of his inappropriate sexual conduct against a 14-year old girl in 1979 are true.

Both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) released brief statements on Thursday, shortly after The Washington Post published the allegations.

"If these allegations are true, he must step aside," McConnell said.

Gardner's statement echoed that from McConnell.

“The allegations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore are deeply troubling,” he said. “If these allegations are found to be true, Roy Moore must drop out of the Alabama special Senate election.”

So, even if he did full around with a 14 year old, you don’t want him stepping down?

The conservative movement is in a weird place, man.....

“It’s too late to replace him on the ballot.”

It’s never too late.

GOP Inc must be destroyed.

I am coming to the conclusion that the GOPe will destroy us all. They just do not understand that their day has passed, and that no one is going to accept the Bush/McCain/Romney style of leadership any longer, more than they would vote for the Democrats. That disenfranchises a significant part of the country, about 62 million at last count. What do they expect that large crowd of people to do when and if they succeed in getting rid of Trump? It will not be good for anyone when that day comes.

What conservative movement? Beltway Conservativism hasn’t delivered since Reagan. That’s 30-40 years ago at this point.

You can run an organized write-in campaign, but to win, you need to do the Lisa Murkowski thing and have name recognition and an organization and months of prep time and all that. And if that happened, the Repubs would get behind Luther Strange anyway.

Absentee ballots are already in the mail here.

I’m an attorney and tend to know a lot of this esoteric nonsense, but what happens if Moore wins and the Senate refuses to seat him? Does the Governor appoint a replacement again? Are we in an endless feedback loop?

“McConnell will do anything to maintain power for the GOPe. He needs to be brought down. His own background has some suspicious incidents including how he left the military. Since politics is war now. He needs to be destroyed.”

McConnell would like very much for the democrats to be back in power. He is most comfortable with that. This proves it.

Fair point, but if Moore did ask a fourteen year old to rub his penis in 1979, we do or do not want him in the Senate?

I honestly don’t know at this point.

It’s a pretty well researched and affirmed he said/she said. They have other women who said Moore approached them, and friends from 1979 who said they were told at the time.

I doubt it will make a difference in the election, but Moore may be entering under a cloud. Not sure how to resolve it.
