The reason why classic cars are so appealing is the lower belt line. The high belt line of modern cars make them less appealing, at least to me. Picture the Mustang below with a 3 inch lower belt line. It would be even more spectacular.

The "beltl ine" in auto jargon is the line that extends form the trunk to the hood just below where the glass starts.

Moms parents traded in a 69 Malibu with a 396 and 27,000 miles on it on a Citation...

One of my HS buddies' parents did the same thing with a really nice '69 Caprice Coupe. He was fit to be tied (justifiably so, I might add).

I agree with that 100%, although I love the retro Mustangs, at least up until the last couple of years. In any case, I can't think of a better example of what you're saying about the "high belt line", etc, than with the new/retro Dodge Challengers. To me they just look too fat and stocky. The original was more lean and low.

Cousin had one exactly like this. He drove it for over 30 years.

There’s no point in using the hubcaps. When you’re doing any serious driving, they are just going to fly-off anyway.

Yeah, I know. But it was cool.

He had driven another cool one that his mom had originally: 1957 Black Chevy coupe with chromed head covers.

He never finished college and was drafted into the Army in 1969. Those cars were not that expensive even in ‘68 dollars. Plenty of enlisted men came back with big combat and re-enlistment bonuses and bought bitchin’ wheels.

The guy with the white one with black interior (289) had it absolutely pristine. Looked brand new. Quite a looker it was.

The 428 4-speed was not as nice but you didn’t care when he stepped on the gas. He sold it and bought a 69 302 or maybe 351 Windsor. One day while washing it, huge sheets of gold paint started coming off. It had been to Earl Schreib or something.

Most of my friends were decent guys. I’d love to have a Superbird - have a photo of one from an old, old car show - probably late 1970’s or very early 1980’s.

One of the guys we knew did have an AMX - it was super-clean and yes he was quite the jerk about it. Kept me from appreciating the car at the time. It was white with blue and red stripes or something.

One guy I knew (nice guy) had a 360 Gremlin - I don’t think it was 401, don’t remember. But it was always fun seeing the car.

After my friend Tom got caught during burnouts at the high school in his 440 Challenger, his father made him sell it. He got a clean 318 version, but it just wasn’t the same car. A tragedy.

I am surprised the GS455 Buick has not been mentioned

Nice combo. A Boxter I can respect. I was prepared to poo-poo your Boxter until I paid attention to what you said you did. 500+ in that little frame’s gotta be a rush.

I bought a Saturn Sky Redline (260Hp) back in 2008, and paid about $32K. Really made this guy I knew mad, cause he spent over $60K for his Boxter, and mine would keep up with it...

I’m in a 2015 Mustang GT now (435Hp, 4.4 0-60), factory setup, and I’m having a blast. There’s a bolt-on blower available to take it past 700Hp, but I’m scared to go there!

Anyway - nice car, cool sound!

I was actually going to mention something that didn’t meet the true muscle car standard but the late 60s Buick Electra 225 was a pretty dang hot luxury car. I had one my dad had run to 100k. It had those electric seats that were like an overstuffed sofa. It was pretty fast for the era and great for comfort.

I’m saving my nickles for the wilwood front brakes for my 57 Bel air right now. Though for a Vegas guy, I will miss those random turns to the right or left when braking.

I didn’t do it. I don’t have a boxster; but had considered that.

Your Skyline was 260HP and would easily keep up with a Boxster up until you got on curvy roads.

Up until 2016 the Boxster/Cayman base model was only 275 Horsepower.

But a mid-engine boxer configuration is hard to beat on a curvy track.

That is not a 69 Malibu or Chevelle. That is a 70.

Could have stopped the thread right here. Except the 69 Z28 needs an M22 Rock Crusher trans with 411’s. I had one for a few months. Orange with white strips.
