Baseball legend Hank Aaron said he won't watch any NFL games this season because of how the league treated former quarterback Colin Kaepernick after Kaepernick's national anthem protest last season drew widespread scrutiny.

NFL
Negro Felons League?
Colin is a self-absorbed jerk.
On the field his job is to play football.
His political statements can be made on his own time.
The owners are running a business and have no obligation to accept his distracting behavior.
Aaron seems to be implying that the NFL—not Kaepernick—was the aggressor in this. Kaepernick made himself a Pariah. The NFL didn’t do so.
Uncle Tom Aaron...
actually, I believe Tom Aaron is Hank’s late brother...I had a Hank Aaron bat when I was growing up in the ‘50’s; later got an Ernie Banks model...
It is both amazing and sad the number of people I have lost admiration for over this disrespect of my country.
Wonder how they are going to pay those players millions if nobody wants to watch them.
Personally I think we would do just fine if professional sports went away. Maybe it could start up again at some date in the future when it was filled with people who were grateful to live in a country where you could earn millions for chasing a ball.
That’s too bad Hank Aaron is taking that stand. He’s old enough to know better, old enough to see that Kaepernick is to blame for the consequences of his actions. I guess all Hank’s smiles to whitey were just shuck and jive, playing the game to stay in the game. I hate that a black role model like he was, is treacherous like that.
quote-What a coincidence! Tens of millions of Americans wont watch NFL football this season because of how Kaepernick treats his country. And also because the games are going gay this year.
The NFL may get hit from both ends.
Good for them.
That just can’t be. We are constantly told that we think about racism constantly. /s
Local leftwing politics at their best. Convention and civic centers are usually put in areas most folks wouldn’t go near during the day, let alone at night. Or, real estate owners of dying downtowns pull with city councils.
It does seem sad. But someone posted that Hank Aaron is 83. Some 83-yos are as sharp as tacks, but others have lost their edge.
This and now there is an article on the ESPN site trying to make a case for the Jaguars to sign the Kneeler. Geez, that would go over like a fart in a diving bell here. If Shad want to move from Jacksonville, that is the ticket to make sure he sells none and the ones that he has sold for this year will go unfilled.
Is it baseball season already?
The first mention of Hank Aaron that I recall was in an Elvin Bishop song. For whatever reason, I assumed he was white.
But your point is excellent. Back then, who cared what color he was? People cared about his skill, and that was about it.
I was a fan of Aaron too. Even got his biography. Never got his autograph though. Many moons ago here on FR he revealed himself as to his racial feelings and political stance. Can’t even remember what he was on about. Maybe something about W. So this latest fart from him is no surprise. IIRC in his book he was a huge Browns fan and if he still is he should love them even more given their latest copy cat antics in regards to Kaepernick.
As to Trump I doubt he will show up for the World Series since he passed on throwing out the opening pitch for the Nationals this spring. Besides seldom does the President attend the World Series. Last time I recall was W for the 2001 series in NY in the wake of 9 11.
And I won’t watch it because of they way the league let Kaepernick interfere with my Sunday afternoon entertainment time. NFL used to be an escape from reality, not a time to have social issues, breast cancer, and other issues forced on viewers as they try to be entertained.
But it doesn’t matter. I’m sure they’ll insist that lower viewership has nothing to do with how Aaron or I feel about the league.
I wasn’t a big sports fan. My Dad watched football, but I can’t remember him ever watching baseball.
So let this cat out of the bag for me, please. Did Aaron catch Babe Ruth?
