Offended? Go hassle Merriam-Webster, not us
Apple fanbois are officially sheeple. So says American dictionary Merriam-Webster.
The American lexicologists added the term of endearment to their tome yesterday, a mere 72 years after its first recorded use in the English language.
Helpfully, and entirely non-inflammatorily, Merriam-Webster's people gave two examples of "sheeple" being used in a sentence. The first was a fairly neutral example of a farmer being rude to his neighbours. The second... well, here it is for your amusement/enragement (delete as appropriate):
Apple's debuted a battery case for the juice-sucking iPhone an ungainly lumpy case the sheeple will happily shell out $99 for.
A quick bit of (insert your adjectival search engine of choice)-ing reveals this neat little phrase was used by one Doug Criss of CNN in 2015.
Criss himself hadn't said anything on Twitter about being cited by the dictionary and we're not bothered enough to ring him up and ask him what he thinks. It's nearly time for elevenses, after all.
Sheeple was added to the only true dictionary, the Oxford English Dictionary, years ago it was their word of the day on 6 January 2013. Regardless, it's nice to see our colonial cousins keeping up with the mother tongue. ®
Apples are what you use to make cider.
Ending a sentence with a preposition? That’s something up with which we shall not put!
Apple fans don’t kill Windows & Android users.
Cute comparison, but wholly inappropriate.
Comparing someone who is head over heels in love with their iPhone to someone who burns people alive in iron cages and blows up innocent children is so over the top I can't begin to say.
Sorry, but that is not what a "refurb" is. Often it is a Mac that was part of a major order that part was simply not fulfilled. It is new, just rebooted. Also if it is a return, the keyboard and mouse is always brand new. Apple refers are sold with warranties of the same duration and same coverage as a new computer. Try to learn something before you post unknowledgeable drivel.
Substitute "Islam" for "Apple" and I could be criminally prosecuted in several European countries for the blasphemous words I've directed at Apple. And I could be sued civilly in Canada (ask Mark Steyn).
I grow weary of arguing with cultists...this is my last post to this thread.
Well, bye.
Ignorant post. iPhones have NFC and have had for three years, how do you think ApplePay, the number one phone payment system in the world, works? Apple's NFC can be used for many of the same things that similar NFC is used for on Samsung phones. Apple just does not make it readily available to general Apps.
Show me a Samsung phone that has been used to produce ANY cover of a major magazine or any professional magazine photography. I can show you several major magazine covers, including TIME, Elle, National Geographic, Popular Photography, Vogue, and major magazine photographic spreads including National Geographic and other magazines done on iPhones. I can also show you major sports photography done on iPhones. . . until you can show me similar work done on Samsung phones, you can't claim Samsung phone cameras are equal or better than the iPhone cameras.
Show me even one full length motion picture filmed and edited on Samsung phones. I can show you several full length motion picture filmed and edited on iPhones and iPads. When you can show me Samsung phones doing the same, THEN perhaps you can claim their cameras are equal or better.
Some Samsung phones have replaceable batteries, not all and mostly not their top end.
The one area where the Samsung and many other Android phones exceed the iPhone is the number of pixels they have to move around on the screen for no discernible benefit because the Human eye can cannot resolve the resolution screens they are putting on their phones for purely the purposes of advertising hype to people who think more pixels on their screens somehow means they are getting a better picture when their eyes simply cannot see it.
Your ignorance is showing, TexasGator.
How could the iPhone 7 support Gigabit LTE, TexasGator?
As of March 31, 2017: The version 0.1 draft documents for Gigabit LTE were only released in January 2017. . . and the 10.0 versions are not due until July. There's a good chance that what Samsung included in the Galaxy 8 will not work with the final draft of the standards. . . and what will be finally rolling out when they actually IMPLEMENT Gigabit LTE for use is still in the future. YOU ARE BLOWING HOT AIR WARE THAT MEANS NOTHING!
Samsung is attempting to get the standards organization to accept THEIR designs as the standard. . . but it is not the standard, and far too early to say if it every will be. There are many competing patents working for that designation and they don't have the final say.
On the other hand, I fully comprehended that Trump never said anything like "Bigly." It was the mainstream press who picked up the "Bigly" mis-use and claimed he said it. It is Trump's quick speaking of the two word phrase "Big league," nothing more and he did not coin a new word, contrary to the demeaning press trying to make Trump out as an ignorant boob who does not know how to use the English language.
A better sentence:
“The sheeple were so ill-informed they elected 0bama to a second term.”
“Apple is like Islam, its the radicalism that is the problem...”
Not at all. No one has been beheaded over Apple devices...or even killed, possibly excepting robbery having nothing to do with anything but the almighty dollar. There are just as many insane Android folk out there as there are for iOS. ;-)
‘The other problems in both group about 98% percent of the followers are radical. There is no computer but Apple and Steve Jobs is its profit.....Apple Akbar!!!”’
Profit? (sic)
At any rate, that’s just silly. Apple has done a superior job with its software, but if something else works for you that’s fine.
See my comment #36. "Bigly" has been a valid English adverb for over 500 years. It's uncommon generally, but has been in use, and while I don't know personally what Trump was trying to say, my opinion is that he used it, and used it correctly.
BS - The S8 was only released April 21 of THIS year...
Especially when they overlooked the clearest example of “steeple” around -— Democrat voters...
Typo. S7
“There’s a good chance that what Samsung included in the Galaxy 8 will not work with the final draft of the standards. . . and what will be finally rolling out when they actually IMPLEMENT Gigabit LTE for use is still in the future. YOU ARE BLOWING HOT AIR WARE THAT MEANS NOTHING!”
Really!
“Samsung Galaxy S8 supports LTE-U, which both Verizon and T-Mobile aim to deploy”
“Ignorant post. iPhones have NFC and have had for three years, how do you think ApplePay, the number one phone payment system in the world, works? “
It has ApplePay NFC. Locks out all other uses.
I've always believed Limbaugh gets paid to advertise Apple products, but Apple makes him pretend he's not getting paid. There's no way he commits that kind of air time to a corporation without getting paid. Apple needs conservative purchasers, but doesn't want the blowback from paying Limbaugh. They may do something other than cash payments, like providing all the computers and tech support or making contributions to a charity he designates, but it's hard for me to believe that he's giving away that kind of advertising.
On Samsung vs Apple phones, I have a Samsung, my daughters have iPhones cause they work with iTunes and the app store. Both work fine. Price isn't much different. I use Google maps, browser, audible, music and phone and texting. If I was going to root the thing and use it as a ghost detector like on Supernatural, might be a different story, but really, for normal use, the difference is negligible.
No, more ignorance on your part. I've used my iPhone as an electronic key at upscale hotels. There are other uses. It's just not a function that is always on or available to every Tom, Dick, and Harry developer who wants to use it willy-nilly, and that is for security reasons because it DOES USE it for ApplePay. If it were open to any it isn't secure.
Quit trying to ignorantly lecture us who use the iPhone on what it cannot do, when you do not use or know anything about it when all you know is from rumor, hearsay, and your assumptions.
Catching smoke is easy with our friend Gator, isn't it? He condemns himself out of his own mouth by making up his own facts, stumbling all over himself attempting to prove his unprovable case with lies. He should stick to the truth because when he does, he won't have to remember later what he made up on the spur of the moment. . . such as before he gets to the end of his sentence.
