That effectively removes the power to declare war from Congress, and is an argument that should be rejected on its face by anyone who respects the plain text of the Constitution - no matter what a corrupted Supreme Court filled with power-mad tyrants may decide.

Trying to police a place like this into a liberal democracy (even in the old sense of liberal) is a fools’ errand.
I do believe in supporting countries after evil has been vanquished, but in a wise way. A firm kingdom is needed in traditionally Islamic countries, a kingdom which will also accommodate gospel preaching. The former shah of Iran is a better model for this than the attempt to make Iraq into a liberal democracy.
The Obama government helped create it.
The Trump government can send it to hades.

We have said for years that the US switched sides in the "war on terror" under Obama. Now, finally, we are switching back.
It is some really toxic foreign policy that allowed Assad to become the good guy, and us to ally ourselves with Al Qaeda and ISIS. There were probably good reasons to push Assad from power but once you choose Al Qaeda as your allies, you've lost the plot.

Trump notwithstanding, I'm not so sure that the shoe isn't on the other foot in this millennium.
It seems to me you are dangerously close to saying, "the Constitution means whatever I say it means." The Constitution doesn't specify any exact wording for a Declaration of War, nor any limits on one. And it's hard to argue that an authorization to use force passed by both Houses actually removes power from Congress and gives too much to the Executive in the absence of such restrictions.
What is most likely going to happen is that Syria will be partitioned into a rump Syrian state in the West acting as a Russian satrapy, the Turkish border will be moved a few miles south, and the US will pick up the rest of the country (with the Kurds in the East and a buffer Northeast of the Golan). Basically a new Sykes-Picot arrangement.
Our goal here will be to crush ISIS (Russia doesn't give a rat's patooty about ISIS) and keep the Iranians out. We will be there for decades.
Agree ....my favorite / few I worked with were French Foreign Legion, Australian SAS and ROK Marines during my career..... Also was on same site with Syrians during Desert Shield / Storm but they suck camel d*ck as expected. Cubans on Grenada were as close as I every got to Spetznaz (I think) ....:o)

No I agree with you. I’m about pursuing and eliminating those trying to kill us ... be they terrorists, polidiots, presstitutes ours or theirs. Yes I agree with you, our nation barters with the devil 24/7.
Will not knowingly be a part of foreign nation building. Your views are mine as well. Our polidiots pander to fill they’re own pockets and we are punished for decades.
As to ISIS .... no mercy shown, no quarter given. Kill those that don’t surrender and execute after waterboarding for intel those that do...... Islamakazis must be exterminated.
I wrote my Congressman asking if he had voted on a Declaration of War. I have not received a response. If the Supreme Court has declared “The Authorization to Use Military Force” constitutional then the Constitution means nothing. Secular despots are being replaced by religious fanatics. Assad is not a Boy Scout but if our record is any indication, he will be missed. CIA rebels have fought with Pentagon supported rebels. The Turks are fighting the Kurds. We have no business there.
