Hurry up while it’s still moderately safe.
For some of these cities, especially those in France and Sweden it’s probably already too late.

Those are pretty obscure.... I’ll add to larger ones to the list based on my own travels:
Prague, Czech Republic. VERY beautiful, very old city with a lot of original architecture. Also, plentiful CHEAP beer!
Metz, France: Just visited there. Very interesting place. Has changed hands between France and Germany many times over the centuries... leads to an interesting culture.

Love these "a little off the main route" cities. Of the list shown, I've only been to two so far. Lots to see still, if the muslims don't make it too dangerous.
Big endorsement for making a stop in Segovia, there's nothing more dramatic than sitting underneath a colossal triple decker roman aquaduct that cuts directly through the old city while dining on some roast sucking pig that's so tender they cut it with the side of a dinner plate. Incredible atmosphere!

In the 1950s it would have been a nice trip. Now I’d only go to the former Eastern bloc countries if I were inclined to visit Europe.

You have to stick to the west by Spain. In a year that to may be gone.
Tourism has dropped through the floor with Islam.
I no longer think the Meditierrian is safe, felt changes already two years ago.

Two others that should definitely be on the list:
Tallinn, Estonia
Prague, Czech Republic.

I consider myself to be very well traveled, have only been to one of those, Lübeck, Germany. Great city.
Thing about Europe is you can pull over in many towns that are off the beaten path and find 1500 years of history.
Too bad it will all turn into Gaza during our lifetime.

>> Tallinn, Estonia
>> Prague, Czech Republic Couldn't agree more!
And I would add Belgrade, Riga, Bratislava and Bucharest to the list -- all of them also former Communist places where Americans are still very popular.

Lubek, Germany is the only one I have visited.

At least I've been to one of them!
Great experience too in the little restaurant across the way in for foreground. Maître d' says as he greets me, "Oooh. I see you come with the Guide Michelin," and he escorts my wife and I to a 2nd floor table next to an open air window right opposite the aqueduct. He also spent considerable time with us discussing the menu. (This was for lunch.)

I have been to one of them, Trieste Italy. I was there in December about 20 years ago. My friend and I were walking around sightseeing and it started snowing. Pretty soon it was snowing hard and the wind was howling. We went into a small bar to warm up and ordered a shot of scotch each. The bartender gave each of us a water glass full of scotch for 5000 Lira. That was about $2.50 at the exchange rate of the time. Needless to say we were there for a long time. Long enough for shore patrol to roust us out and send us back to the ship.
