Get notified on your PC the way you want to (or not at all).
The Windows 10 notifications system is still a work in progress -- universal-ish app notifications that appear on your lock screen, on your desktop and in your action center. In the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft has added more notifications (Windows can now link to your Android phone via the Cortana app and mirror Android notifications on your desktop) and more notifications options, including the ability to prioritize certain apps over others.
The notifications/action center is getting there, but it's still pretty confusing. Here's how to wrestle Windows 10 notifications into submission, whether you want to prevent them from appearing on the lock screen or turn them off altogether.
Privacy, please
Notifications automatically appear on the Windows 10 lock screen -- so you can stay in the loop without having to unlock your device. But you may not want all (or any) notifications appearing on the lock screen, in which case you can turn this feature off.

As an added plus, the author is a freelance tech writer, who describes herself as a "Freelance superstar, night owl, geekette". She's a contributing editor at PC World in addition to her contributions to CNet. And though it has nothing to do with her writing skills, she's apparently very pretty, which never hurts. :-)

Not Guilty. Can she notify me when she is in my neighborhood?
Looks like a useful article, thanks for posting.
Perhaps... but you must first be sure you are fully updated with security patches.
I wonder if any of the female techies will write a piece comparing Microsquish’s unrefuseable update policies to date rape/forced sex? PLus every half hour the rapist goes through your personal info and sends it back to someone else.
You just better sit there and take it, lie back, might as well enjoy it.
I am sure in time such an article will be written. Software update rape.

A rant on Windows 10.
First some websites would not display. Page cannot be display type message. All 3 web browsers and on my desktop and laptop. Both had Windows 10. One used network cable and another wifi. Could get the websites using my cellphone using the T-Mobile data. One site was tvguide.com
It was not my cable modem or router. I have 2 routers I tried and even bought another cable modem and still the issue came up. Either no internet or some sites not loading.
Eventually fixed by luck and reinstalling Windows but.....
While working on that fun project another problem came up on Windows 10 where left clicking the start button or a program button on the taskbar would not work. This issue can also affect your wifi connection.
There is no fix for this. None. You will find suggestions and some may work though none did for me. Microsoft even has a script they have you download. NADA it does not work. You can download the free Classic Shell Start Button which fixes the issue of the start button but not the right clicking.
The last suggestion from Microsoft and others is to do a refresh which reinstalls Windows but all your applications are removed..... so you get to spend much time reinstalling them.
BTW it does not work!. I even went so far to format the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows 10. This worked for a while. I had this problem 3 times these past 2 days. I became an expert in reinstalling!
I have now formatted the drive and installed Windows 7 and am currently reinstalling all my programs and copying my backed up files to the old is new OS.
I used Windows 10 for a few months and modified it enough to like it but these problems that were not an issue in older OS’s are unforgivable. Add spying to the OS as well as a aggravation.
Windows 7 is faster. The themes are not as colorful but I can get 1001 themes at Stardock http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds or download many from other sources.

so evil w10 still installs junk w/o permission.
I doubt it. It's not a bad analogy, IMO, but it wouldn't make it past the editors who for reasons of political correctness would block it on the basis that it "trivializes" actual physical rape.
Not that identity theft and privacy violation are any less unpleasant, or any less potentially life-destroying, experiences than rape. (Which is why the analogy works.)
But women are a protected class. Computer users are not. And I won't even think about suggesting that computer users ought to be.
Actually I like a plain background, typically a dark teal, and the "Classic" windows 2000 theme.
So the limited choice of garish bright colors in Win10 turns me off. It's one thing I'd really like to see fixed without having to resort to third party fixes.
Turns out that Microsoft developed a database of different manufacturers/models that are permanently incompatible with the Windows 10 upgrade (free or otherwise) I was not aware of this database, so I never checked.
Have you looked into that as your possible problem?
The best alternative is Peppermint LINUX.
Yeah, there should be zero protected classes.
I have a question.
When doing a disk file clean-up, is it safe to empty items such as System error Memory Dump Files, Delivery Optimization Files....
I am not sure what is safe to delete as I have about 1GB in all.
Years ago I would try to make my own decisions about what to keep and what to delete, and it drove me crazy trying to second-guess Microsoft's engineers. So these days I trust them to not pull the rug out from under their own feet.
And still I cross my fingers and offer up a prayer anyway.
So then it’s okay to delete the rest of the stuff with the exception of the restore points? Sorry, I am not well versed on what to keep.
Well, I don't want to give you advice that doesn't work in your particular situation. Without knowing a lot of the details about your particular system, and what "clean-up" tool(s) or commands you want to use, I'm leery of saying "Yeah, it's okay, full steam ahead". Every system and situation is a little different.
What tool are you planning to use to delete stuff?
Disk Cleanup.
I delete temp files and my recycle bin.
Just seems like whatever is in there takes up over 1GB of space.
I use my computer (Win 10) for personal use and really only access the internet and do some spreadsheets using Excel.
That should be completely safe. (Assuming you didn't put something critical in the recycle bin. :-) )
There's also a good tutorial on using Disk Cleanup on Windows 10 over here:
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-disk-cleanup-open-use-windows-10-a.html
It discusses some other options and advanced uses, which you might want to avoid for now, but maybe they could come in handy in the future.
