Proximity to equator may play role in frequency of violent behavior, theory suggests

A team of researchers recently published a study that proposes a new model on how violent human behavior may be impacted by a warmer climate.

The paper, published in the journal, "Behavioral and Brain Sciences" by faculty at The Ohio State University and Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, introduced a model of Climate, Aggression and Self-control in Humans (CLASH) that seeks to understand "differences within and between countries in aggression and violence in terms of differences in climate."

"We believe our model can help explain the impact of climate on rates of violence in different parts of the world," Paul van Lange, lead author of the study, said in a statement through Ohio State.

The model suggests people who live closer to the equator, where the weather is warmer and there is less temperature variability, have more of a focus on the present, according to Brad Bushman, a co-author of the study and professor of communication and psychology at Ohio State.

Sam Kinison’s great line for the “poor” in the Middle East,

“MOVE TO WHERE THE FOOD IS. SEE THIS? IT’S SAND. YOU FIND IT IN A DESERT. WE HAVE DESERTS-—WE JUST DON’T LIVE IN THEM!”

Could be related to the increased centrifugal force at the equator. Since the earth spins at a faster rate at the equator (25,000-mile earth circumference per 24/hr rotation vs progressively less circumferences going away towards the poles), objects, including human beings, weigh somewhat less there. Perhaps the “light-headedness” leads to the increased aggression. har har

Except we do.

California is desert and is quickly reverting to such with the Marxists that are running things.

Well, it’s a joke. I live in AZ and we do just fine in a desert.

NYC is actually pretty non violent compared to most places...a little less than Seattle

It’s violent crime rate per capita is lowish.....596/100,000

Oakland is 1600/100,000

One of my favorite books. Not that I agree with everything in it but it was thought provoking.

1. It may explain why riots are more likely in the summer in the West. Then again, it may be easier to riot when you don’t have to wear heavy warm clothing and get a mob quickly in whatever they are wearing.
2. They don’t take into account demographics, which is why blacks are more prone to arrest and crime in the West but whites, no matter where they live, aren’t.

You laugh but as I was reading the article I was waiting to see this very proposal put forth.

“Will this be used to push the climate change agenda?”

GlowBULL warming is exactly what they expect us to think of with this “new” theory. Aren’t they clever?

Well, if gravitational influences from a full moon can cause “lunatic” behavior (in some folks’ beliefs), why not centrifugal force. :/
