Microsoft has been forced to pay £7,500 ($10,000) in compensation to a woman after its new Windows 10 operating system automatically installed on her computer.
Teri Goldsteins computer which previously ran on Windows 7 - became unusable after the software tried to download without her approval.
Relying on her device to run her travel agency in Sausalito, California, she went to the Microsoft's support team seeking answers, The Seattle Times reports.
But after having no success and her computer still being unresponsive, she sued the company for the price of a new computer and the loss of earnings. the report says.

I really hope so. If ever a company's actions warranted one, the whole Win 10 hustle/fraud certainly does.
I hope so...arrogant bastards.
MS needs to be sued for this.
I would join a class action lawsuit, but would not expect to see much money after the sharks (lawyers) finish their feeding frenzy. Still, it would be nice to jab a stick in Microsoft’s eye for corrupting a computer with Windows 10 at work against our wishes.
In the meantime, anyone can hit Microsoft in the pocketbook another way: switch to Linux instead. No more money from me!
“Well now, do I smell a class-action lawsuit coming soon? “
shoulda been one at least a year ago. and i think $10,000.00 per affected PC sounds about right.
That’s exactly what we did last weekend. We were so pissed at having 10 forced on us, that we decided no more MS for us.
It’s a learning curve, but we’re enjoying using Linux, and learning something new.

I believe dayglored and many others are already aware of this event, and have been for some time now.
I was working on the computer when they installed window10 without permission. It took a long time to install and there are changes here and there but overall it runs fine.
I’ve been trying to switch to Linux. Unfortunately there are a few programs I need for work that still require Windows.
I’ve settled for a dual-boot, and uninstalled the update that causes Win10 to keep turning up.
I do NOT take kindly to being forced. If you have to use force, peer-pressure, conniving, emotionalism, or threats to get me to do something, then that means there’s a logical reason for me not to do it.
(Needless to say, I was a difficult child sometimes.)
Welcome to the club. I switched from Vista to Linux in 2009 and never looked back. You will appreciate it more and more as you learn what it can do. Windows was a maintenance headache that I don’t worry about now. I have not bought an anti-virus program since then either.
Thank you... Given that I posted this thread yesterday, same topic:

I need to ask first: Is there additional info in the Daily Mail article? If it's just a rehash of the same stuff I'm inclined to not spam the Windows list on it, but if it's got additional details it would be worth it. Opinion?
I was on vacation in Britain for two weeks. One of our tour guides told me this happened to him and it was a disaster for his little van tour business. Lost a lot of his business records and emails from customers.
No new news.
Cheerio!
No worries.
For reasons beyond me, the default search is done on "keywords" rather than "titles", and I think that trips up a lot of people (I know I have to carefully set it to "titles" each time I use it for a title word).
If you're ever looking for threads that have already been pinged to the Windows List, you can search on the keyword "windowspinglist" since I try to put that in the keywords of every thread that I ping the list on.
Ummm... Did not My post appear on this thread? Just curious...

?
And yet... when I use “Windows 10” on a Title Search I have no difficulties... perhaps because I am not using a maccompukker. Just one possibility...
