Turkey’s President has cut short his trip to the US and will not attend the funeral of boxer Muhammad Ali, his office said Friday, amid reports of a rift with the ceremony’s organizers.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan had specially flown to Louisville in the southern US state of Kentucky to say farewell to Ali, who the Turkish president is known to have admired hugely as a committed Muslim and civil rights campaigner.
Erdogan on Thursday attended a prayer ceremony for Ali and had been due to attend the funeral on Friday along with several other high profile political leaders.
But the president’s office said that Erdogan left the United States for Turkey late Thursday after attending the prayer ceremony and joining a Ramadan fast-breaking dinner with the US diaspora of Meskhetian Turks who were expelled from their homeland by Stalin in the 1940s.

WTF? The proto-fascist President of Turkey flies to the USA to attend the funeral of a professional boxer he didn’t know who happened to belong to a made-up religion that has the word “Islam” in his name.
What was he hoping to achieve, except self-aggrandizement or some kind of Muslim evangelization?

Well I am impressed with the organizers. I did not like Ali years ago, but he did seem to mellow somewhat, so I cut him some slack. I am happy Turkey’s freak is upset!

Parkinson's disease will tend to mellow ya for sure. He was a brash loud mouth as a youth and a pretty good boxer but he decided to align himself with the black muslims and take on a muslim name. He claimed to have become a pacifist in order to reject being drafted but continued to fight for personal profit. I suppose he never learned that the name he chose, Muhammad, was a slave master and a pedophile. Too bad. He could rhyme a few verses and was somewhat funny at times but not someone to be admired in death. Lets just say RIP and be done with it.
I live in Louisville, and it has been nothing but Ali for a solid week. I am so sick of it. Practically everything has shut down around town, and well, I have never seen anything quite like it. This memorial service today reminds me of the Wellstone Memorial service years ago. I just don’t get it. I truly just do not get it.

Turned on FoxNews to see Cavuto and it was only Ali’s funeral. I don’t get it either.
All the details which Erdogan cited as being angry about and which prompted his abrupt departure are things always hashed out and agreed on by both nation's subordinates, aides and advisors way before a plane to the USA is boarded by a head of state.
Would like to know what the rest of the story is.

yeah, I was wondering how on earth any head of state would get here without such things already nailed down in advance.... poor staff work, or else something stranger going down..... anyway, I am happy to laugh at Erdogan’s hissy fit!!
