Responding to a National Enquirer story alleging he had multiple extramarital affairs, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday blamed the report on Donald Trump and "his henchmen."
Cruz said the report was untrue.
He called Trump "a rat" and said there is no level to which he won't stoop.
"The question that people are asking is how low will Donald go," Cruz said.
Cruz accused Trump of being a coward who has problems with "strong women."
Cruz was in Oshkosh Friday morning at Lakeside Plastics for a campaign stop.
Later speaking to reporters, he went on the attack against Trump and his shoot-from-the-hip style.
"It will not be sufficient for a president. He will send tweets at Putin," Cruz said.

I thought that Cruz would just laugh it off.
But now he swung at Trump, and put the story at the next level.
Stupid as hell from a political standpoint.
You remember the old LBJ quote....
Indeed, one of LBJs favorite jokes is about a popular Texas sheriff running for re-election. His opponents have been trying unsuccessfully to think of a good campaign issue to use against him. Finally one man suggests spreading a rumor that he —— pigs. Another protests, You know he doesnt do that. I know, says the first man, but lets make the sonofabitch deny it.
Poor Ted. He’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t deny this story.
Exactly! I don’t believe for a second that Cruz was not aware of the planned ad. If he is the righteous man that he claims he should have stopped it.
“Cruz didnt. It was a Super PAC”
You’re right, it was his campaign manager Jeff Roe; and like Ted had always told us, the candidate is responsible for his campaign.
It’s difficult to believe that these two are the best the GOP could cough up this election cycle. I’ve seen better from my cat after a difficult hairball incident...
“Your premise makes no sense.”
You (GGG) Make No Sense! There, fixed it!
Good example of pot calling the kettle black.
“Most politicians have affairs. So what?’
It’s not the affairs. It’s the hypocrisy. The Cruz crew condemns Trump for his multiple marriages and philandering, turns up their nose and proclaims how vulgar he is and how pure and “principled” and “Christian” Cruz is as if Cruz were some how more righteous.
Now they can’t take the idea that their perfect candidate may be not so perfect. They have to blame it on someone and who else would they blame it on? Trump.
The hypocrisy is off the charts.
The story has been on Twitter for quite some time. Rubio people had it. Rick Wilson was referencing it. This didn’t come from Trump. Red lying again...and he knows it.
It was the Rubio campaign that was floating the story back in early March. Go to twitter #TheThing and scroll down to March 14th and prior. There were high hopes that it would be released before SuperTuesday. Once it was not released (Breitbart spiked the the story)... The Rubio Campaign pulled back and hoped it would go away...Nope the NE picked it up and did their own checking and ran with it.
Katrina denies her involvement but says she couldn’t speak for others. Cruz hasn’t denied the story only that it is wrong. (what part wrong? The closest sex, the hooker...didn’t pay $1000 but paid $1100?)
Did Trump have anything to do with the story. No imho. But I am sure he knew about it. and led Cruz down a rabbit hole with the whole wife spat. Get Cruz to act all uppity and then Boom!
Perhaps you misunderstood my feeble attempt at sarcasm. I am a Sen Cruz supporter and yes I agree with everything you said.
“So all she is saying is that she was not one of the Mistresses.”
Yep, she’s not defending Cruz or anyone. She makes it clear she is only speaking for herself.
a lady called up Rush today and said that Cruz should have taken the high road and said he objected to the pic of Mrs Trump and he was standing by Trump..
Rush mocked her ...
So. You assume Trump did indeed “spill the beans” on Ted as he said he would do, and that Trump is responsible for leaking this 5 mistresses story?
What does this say about Trump?
Yeah, does he own it? Does he control the editors?
I doubt it but don’t actually know.
I thought maybe he would admit to the affairs but accuse Trump of forcing him to cheat on his wife.
I can’t read the word ‘henchmen’ without thinking of ‘Batman’ from the 1960s, hideouts with canted floors and identically-costumed goons with the word ‘Henchman’ lettered across the fronts of their sweaters.
What was clear was how fast and far one could fall from favor. The trip from genius to idiot was a flash. The former pilots who flew his plane were geniuses, until they made one too many bumpy landings and became f*cking idiots. The gold carpeting selected in his absence for the locker rooms in the spa at Mar-a-Lago? What kind of f*cking idiot . . . ? I watched as Trump strutted around the beautifully groomed clay tennis courts on his estate, managed by noted tennis pro Anthony Boulle. The courts had been prepped meticulously for a full day of scheduled matches. Trump took exception to the design of the spaces between courts. In particular, he didnt like a small metal boxa pump and cooler for the water fountain alongsidewhich he thought looked ugly. He first questioned its placement, then crudely disparaged it, then kicked the box, which didnt budge, and then stoopedred-faced and fumingto tear it loose from its moorings, rupturing a water line and sending a geyser to soak the courts. Boulle looked horrified, a weekend of tennis abruptly drowned. Catching a glimpse of me watching, Trump grimaced.http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2015/12/donald-trump-mark-bowden-playboy-profile
