The Splintering of the Conservative Media
American Thinker ^ | March 18, 2016 | Steve McCann

Posted on 03/18/2016 2:45:24 PM PDT by Kaslin

Over the past 28 years there has been a sea change in the media. Not only has the monopoly of the so-called mainstream media been shattered but the phenomenal rise of conservative media has been truly stunning. It began in 1988 with the national syndication of Rush Limbaugh and his distinctive brand of conservative political commentary espoused in an entertaining and captivating way, which opened the flood gates for other conservatives, together with Rush, to dominate the talk radio airwaves. In the 1990’s the internet, through hundreds of websites, gave voice to journalists to report stories either ignored or downplayed by the mainstream media and for other conservatives to publish their comments and opinions. Over the years there has been a general good will among all these various players as the goal at the end of the day was to advance the conservative movement as the best political option for the people of this nation.

However, with the overwhelming emergence on the political scene of Donald Trump, someone who is not and has never been a conservative, this once near-monolithic movement is in danger of permanently splintering. While some conservatives are strongly opposed to Trump, many outlets have chosen to unabashedly support him regardless of what he says or does -- or has done or said in the past. Why they have become caught up in the populism sweeping a plurality of primary voters is a question they will have to answer, but on the surface it appears to be for expediency’s sake and not because of any loyalty to ideology.

I’d be SUPER happy either with Trump, and all the DC heads he is essploding or Cruz, who is a fantastic speaker and well-developed and consistent political thinker.

I’m going to be very happy with either of those two.

I’ve had to settle EVERY time for some milquetoast candidate for whom I have to hold my nose...maybe EVERY time..?

So this is very exciting for me.

Yes. We elected a “compassionate” conservative in 2000 and 2004. He had both the House and the Senate for 4 years of that time. The only move he willingly made about immigration was to push all out for amnesty and tell his voters “see you at the signing”. My Senator at the time was one of the GOPers who killed the funding for the border fence they were forced to vote for after W’s amnesty fell flat. The GOP is all about open borders above pretty much everything else. I am done voting for people like that.

I have heard Michael Savage but don't get him on radio where I live.

Just as a data point, I have listened to the Michael Savage show twice this year, and both times he had Donald Trump as a guest.

I like it.

I’m soured a little on Cruz by his establishment endorsements and some of the shennanigans during the primaries, but I could learn to forgive and forget.

“Go back to 88. Bush the first gave you an assault rifle ban, Ruby Ridge, the preparations for the Waco raid.”

Don’t forget the “no new taxes” tax increase, purging the Reaganites from his administration, bailout of the savings & loan industry ($132 billion taxpayer bailout) including his son’s Neil’s Silvarado S&L for $1.6 billion, failure to enforce the border, hiring the US military out to the Saudi’s and Kuwaiti’s, David Souter on the Supreme Court, developing and negotiating NAFTA, and huge deficit spending.

I prefer the term Do-it-for-money-Conservatives. Business models change they always tell the 100 million Americans not working, right?

The most unforgivable sin of Bush Sr. was the second trial of the cops in the Rodney King ordeal. Simply a violation of our protection from double jeopardy. If the Framers of the Constitution knew every crime would be defined multiple ways, they would not have wasted their time prohibiting double jeopardy. Bush showed contempt for the Constitution and that's how I feel about him.
