I live in Missouri, the state Trump won by less than 2,000 (the last I heard). I had been saying all along that Id be voting for Ted Cruz, mainly because he says hes a Christian. But on the day of our election this week, I could not do it, I voted for Trump... knowing full well his foibles. Heres the short story of my transformation:
I am a Christian man in my sixties, have not always been the best I could be, either as a man or a Christian, but I do try, sometimes. Months and even years back I saw Cruz as one of the only ones in DC who was standing for what I believe; I thought then, if he runs for POTUS, hes got my vote. However, the more Ive heard him speak, the less I've liked him, not because of the content of what he says, he says mostly the right things, but its the way in which he says them... inauthentic, insincere, disingenuous; these are words that describe my emotions when I see the expression on his face when he speaks, and then theres that stupid little half-smile after he says a one line-er to applause... ick!
Right up until the day of the election, Tuesday, I had never really understood how instrumental Cruz was in giving us John Roberts, Chief Justice of the supreme court (the man that literally delivered Obamacare to the nation as law). The day of our election, I looked up an article from a Texas news/paper/mag, that railed on Cruz because he was one of the biggest voices selling John Roberts to the nation. Unfortunately for Cruz, I read that article before voting on Tuesday... that is mostly what sealed the deal, against voting for him.
Cruz may be a moral man, but the devil used him to help sink our nation to where we are today; moral maybe, but not wise. Why the hell would I want that man in the White House.
Comparatively, Trump is not what I'd call a moral man, at least by biblical standards, but we know that about him, its a given... hes not trying to gloss over his, well, fallenness; he is what he is... I dumped Cruz for Trump. I made that decision within about two hours before I voted. It's not easy to explain but I felt a sense of freedom when I voted for Trump. My brother who is a Baptist pastor was nearly apoplectic when I told him I voted for Trump, he wanted me to feel very, very guilty, but I dont, I actually feel quite good about it.
Adding to that, there is the "inbetween-the-lines" reasons that swung me to Trump. The biggest? All the entities that we conservatives and Christians see as our mortal opposition, the MSM, DC Elite, Republican Establishment, Liberal Progressives, Black Lives Matter, and now, Fox News have been trying to destroy Trump... "the enemy (Trump) of my enemy (the above noted) is my friend". I know their hatred of me and all that I hold dear, so when I see them descend on Trump with the same ferocity that I know they hold toward me and my kind, I count Trump as my kind. And now out of desperation, Ted Cruz seems to be siding with the enemy, not my kind... phooey on that!
Trump is not claiming Messiahship, like Obama does, and like Ted seems to imply (the savior of Conservatism), Trump is Trump! And you know what, I like that... as brash and unsavory as he may seem, compared to the PC Elites, Trump is more like me than anything I have seen!
It felt good to vote for Trump... I feel like a feminist freed from her bra strap, free at last, free at last...
Heartfelt.....
.....expressing my thoughts as well!
Thank-you!
Yes! Not to mention that the Bible says that it is God who establishes or takes down a King... that’s a had one to get my mind around.
What was sneaky? That he shut down government for 18 days? For calling McConnell a liar?.
By the way, the Constitution doesn’t require you to be born in the US by citizen parents. You need to be a citizen for nine years to become a Senator.
Will you give him credit when it’s due?
I have seen this kind of judgement most of my life. Sadly the hearing impaired and many other people who it takes a while to actually work to understand their meaning and you must go a little out of your way to see people who are different because it does take more time and patience. People at my former work made snide remarks about a sweet lady there at work. She would work through the prayer! My first week there I figured out she couldn’t hear in one ear and some in another. She was a great lip reader. People who had worked with her for 15 or 20 years didn’t stop and pick up on this. I was beside myself and I really had to refrain from going off. These same people judge others quickly without actually taking some time to LISTEN to them. Sadly, some of these same people are Pastors and doctors. It is our christian faith that must make us more understanding in order to strengthen our country. Sorry for being long.
John Roberts was seated on the Supreme Court in September of 2005.
Ted Cruz brought John Roberts on board the legal team in the Florida recount.
Ted Cruz was an adviser to the Bush campaign in the 2000 election.
Ted praised Roberts as one of the greatest constitutional minds in the country.

Mea culpa.
WOW just WOW!!!! I will tell you one thing taking that damn bra off after my day at work is the MOST liberating thing EVER!!!! May God ALWAYS bless you and everyone close to you!!!! Welcome aboard the TRUMP train and you my friend are a TRUE PATRIOT!!! You helped us get him over the line in MO. and I for one will ALWAYS be ever so GREATFUL to you!!!
Well said. You are correct, Cruz comes across as inauthentic, a televangelist IMO, one without sin who is anointed. Not just regarding Roberts, Cruz also, at best, shows a lack of discernment in other areas like who he has on his campaign. He can blame the ‘dirty tricks’ on others and claim he has clean hands but it is his campaign, the buck stops with him.
AFA, Christians voting for Christians. I gave up, back in 04, voting for someone just because they claim to be Christian (like Cruz). I find I am always disappointed (like with Bush). The longer I walk with the Lord, the less I want to vote for those who use their claim of Christianity to get votes.
Don’t feel guilty... there are no perfect candidates ever. I’m slowly leaning Trump, though his personality grates on me. Both of my kids are Trumpsters, which has been fairly annoying.
My son made an interesting point to me.. given Trumps successful brand, which is what he sells and has produced oodles of money for him, why would he risk that by say, performing poorly as President?
On a personal level, it’s quite useful having a candidate with the peccadillo’s that have been off limits to discuss regarding Bill and Hill. They have no retort when he attacks Bill...they can’t call him a prude righteous judgey fundamentalist lol
Then there’s the fact he gave money to the left including Hil, he exposes their hypocrisy over and over.. they took his money happily.
Anyway, I’ll vote for #neverHillary in the general... no matter who wins nomination.
Trump is Jehu, found in 2 Kings 9 (that's "two Kings nine"). Like Jehu with Jezebel, Trump would wipe the floor with today's Jezebel, HRC. Like Jehu with the royal princes, Trump will eradicate all the establishmentarians in DC. Like Jehu with the Baal priests, Trump will trick the terrorists into showing themselves and will get rid of most of them. Like Jehu who made deals with Shalmaneser to fight the Arameans, Trump will make deals with Putin and/or Xi to fight the Iranians. Like Jehu with the golden calves, Trump will support a form of religion while not following what God actually requires of His people. In short, as Jehu made Israel/Samaria great again, Trump will make America great again.
So why did I vote for Cruz on Tuesday? Because I'd rather have someone who will make America America again, meaning the America of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Federalist papers, the way David made the 12 tribes Israel again. I don't expect it to happen, but until I have to settle for Jehu, I voted for David.
I think if you now read more articles on Cruz with an open mind, you will see that he is not the man he claims to be.
I am tired of everyone saying Cruz is the only true conservative. Just because he claims this mantle.
Trump is not perfect, but he doesn’t claim to be.
I thought seriously about voting for Cruz, but didn’t like that he said he would consider means testing Social Security. There’s plenty of government waste without taking away our Social Security. What about Federal pensions? Why are they so sacrosanct, but not Social Security. When they start to means-test Federal pensions, then we can consider SS.
Next it was the TPA vote, which allowed TPP to be fast tracked. Then it was voting for the Corker bill. He should have made a bigger stand against the Iran deal.
Then I started paying attention to Ted & Heidi’s bios. Both worked in good jobs for the Bush Admin. They were not outsiders. She also worked at Goldman Sachs and co-authored the North American Union report while she was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. (CFR) I’ve never heard anyone ask Ted about whether he agreed with this North American Union report.
The loans were not reported when he ran for the Senate as required by law.
I don’t believe he was a American at birth because his mother did not report the birth to he American Consul. He would have a CRBA and he would not have sealed his records. He is probably an American because his mother & Ted would have probably gotten the CRBA when he applied for his passport in high school. You have until you are 18 years old. That would explain the dual citizenship, which was not allowed in Canada at the time of his birth. He claimed he didn’t know he was Canadian until recently, but this is contradicted by people who knew him & said he claimed dual citizenship.
He evidently did not say anything about being a Canadian citizen when he ran for the Senate. Claimed he didn’t know he was a Canadian. So he finally gave up his Canadian citizenship about two years ago. It took his Dad until 2005 to become a citizen. You don’t seal your records unless you are hiding something.
I think he’s hiding that he didn’t get his CRBA until he was a teenager, but until he unseals the records, we will not know.
And, I know that Trump is winning because of Dems switched sides thinking he is the easiest for Hillary to beat. Not necessarily. If Cruz were to be the nominee, all they have to do is follow the McCaskill-Akin end runs and she wins. Cruz would be easier to beat, as proven by the votes for Cruz in Boone County, the hotbed of Missouri liberalism. Dems in Columbia switched for Cruz, not Trump. The man is totally unlikable.
Trump may surprise us yet. After all, if Putin doesn't want the man for President, it says a lot about why one should vote Trump.
Two kinds of Christians, those who are failed and flawed human beings in need of God's Grace and others whose shit don't stink, who thing they are perfect and sit in judgement of "lesser Christians".
I like what Rich DeVos said in a speech years ago in response to a standing ovation. He said, "Thank you, but I'm just a sinner saved by Grace". That one line made a real impact on me.
GREATFUL=GRATEFUL
shoo-in
“To blame Ted Cruz for the failure of Roberts is dishonest.”
Trump tried that crap several times blaming Cruz for Obamacare! Absurd!
His twisted logic implies he has pedophile tendencies. When he was 29 his third and present wife was only 5!
Corker, H1-B expansion, TPA....
I think his shutting down the government was pure grandstanding. Did it achieve anything for anyone but Ted Cruz? And it turned out to be a double edged sword because his co-workers hate him. Even George W Bush commented that “I just don’t like the guy”.
Yes, I know the requirements for Senator are different than POTUS....but he apparently “forgot” to mention to the voters that he was still a Canadian citizen.
I heard him on the radio on my way to work this a.m. - going on and on about Trump not debating him....I had to turn it off. He definitely has something that makes people dislike him.
But seriously, not many, if any actually, are alive today that would have experienced him. So I would have to use Ronald Reagan, and no he isn't as gifted a speaker as Regan was. However, he is quite compelling in his own right, as is evidenced by the support he has garnered.
If Trump is elected I look forward to having you come back in
two years and seeing how you feel it turned out for you.

That would be an interesting observation to read from all of
us on each side of the fence.
