Dear Trump Supporters
Although I am not particularly enamored with Donald Trump (the ideas Cruz espouses are closer to my own), I absolutely understand and appreciate the dynamic behind Trump's meteoric rise and probable victories in the GOP nomination and the November election. I have posted before on FR about the importance of eradicating the Republican Party, so perhaps Trump is the vehicle for that necessary Schumpeterian creative destruction.
What does fascinate me is the hostility towards Cruz from ostensibly conservative folks who happen to be supporting Trump. I do not really care about the specifics of the animus but note that it approaches a quality that genuinely befuddles me. Having been at FR since the Xlintoon regime I am pretty confident that the hostility heaped on Hellary and Bubba pales in comparison to that currently aimed at Cruz. (I went back and read some random threads from back in the day.)
So here is my genuine question for Trump supporters: what was your attitude towards Cruz a year ago, before the entry of Trump into the race? I recall Cruz being lionized on FR and throughout the conservatosphere for being one of the two or three Senators willing to stand in the way of the Uniparty agenda.
In my view Cruz was the savior of the no longer viable Republican Party...At first I thought Cruz and Trump could or would be a team...
As the news surfaced about Cruz's wife's connections with the CRF/North American Union and her and his connection with the global banking industry, I seriously began to question Cruz's honesty...
Then, watching the dirty tricks of Cruz's campaign, I thought even less of Cruz...
And now with Cruz's connection to the Bush machine, past and present, I see Cruz to be a phony establishment, New World Order politician...He won't get my vote...
My attitude towards Cruz a year ago, was that he was my top pick for the nomination. Two things changed that. Number 1, Trump entered the race. Number 2, I began to learn more about Cruz and began to see significant discrepancies between his eloquent conservative rhetoric, and his actual history. And it happened in that order.
After a couple of weeks of examining Trump I concluded that while Cruz may have a better grasp of conservative philosophy, Trump through his aggressive personality and actions could accomplish much more for conservatives than Cruz. I was still positively disposed to Cruz till about 3-4 months ago as it started to become clear to me that Cruz’s words and his actions are too far apart for his claim to be an outsider to be credible.
It seems pretty clear to me now that Cruz was no different than the numerous other candidates who jumped on the Tea Party bandwagon to gain power. Cruz is very smart and he carries off the deception better than the others, but it’s pretty clear to me that he’s not the small government, free market, America first conservative he claims to be.
He was my dream candidate, this generation’s Reagan. I even donated to his campaign when he declared. I will still enthusiastically vote for him if he’s the nominee.
I have been a bit turned off by some of his dirty tricks of late, but not enough to make me dislike him.
However, I support Trump because I don’t think that Cruz can win (not this cycle, in the future this should be different), whereas I think that Trump can do so. He draws from the Dems and Indies that consider Cruz irrelevant at best, and spawn of the Devil at worst. Trump also started the discussion on immigration, and now Cruz is following. Trump is taking on the whole ediface of PC, which no one else has touched.
yep
As I just posted, I think door swings both ways with regard to nastiness. I don’t think one side is “winning” I would call it a tie :(
In answer to your question, I was leery of Cruz a year ago because I have been very against H-1B Visa immigration expansion...Ted Cruz was on board for increasing Visas by 500%. Most people have not studied the issue that closely, so they are likely unaware that the H-1B Visa is only the tip of the iceberg; there are many types of Visas...The visaS programs are a key destroyer of the middle class.
Sadly, my son, a tech degreed professional in San Jose just lost his job...He is now competing for jobs against people here on various types of visas including H-1B...so I am very very concerned about this issue!!!!!
Actually, there are a lot of Freepers who would be perfectly happy with Trump or Cruz. Some of us prefer one or the other more, but we are uniformly anti-GOPe/uniparty/Hillary.
I believe the owner of this place agrees, but I copied him in case I’m wrong and he wants to set me straight.
That said, there are many rabid fanatics who troll against Trump or Cruz. I smell donks, paid trolls, or just fools when I read their dripe. (Again, Mr. Robinson can set me straight if I’m wrong here. After all, this is his house.)
The Cruzers are a Cult, just like Jim Jones and the People’s Temple.
They’ve drank the kool-aid and you better not condemn their savior.

So you would vote for Hillery? How is that right for America? Just nuts!
Absoluely. You’d think most FReepers would be happy. One of our two very finest non-establishment freedom fighters are going up to the Show.
Go, Cruz, GO!
Go, Trump, GO!
Either way, we win, they lose.
I flipped back forth several times myself. I’ve ended up with Trump. Cruz is fine but I’m going with the guy that had the guts to risk it all with his stance on the wall. I do not believe this issue resonates inside the mind of Cruz. My feeling on him is that he is an ideologue. I’m supposed to vote for him because he is the only true conservative.
I’m for trump. And I have only been able to stomach Rush and Hannity as of late. I’m sick and tired of the disdain from: medved, prager, Levin, will, kraut hammer , beck, et all, have for trump and his supporters.
If he goes in with a substantial lead, and they give it to one of the other guys at the convention — I will leave the party for ever. The Republican Party will deserve to die at that point.
I always knew that and called it out very early.
We have to find the truth. The Country is in trouble and we Americans are in trouble.
“I prefer Cruz, but Ill happily take Trump.
Either way it will be the first time in 36 years that the GOP-wing of the Democrat party has been denied their will.”

Amen, brother. Or sister.
Ohhhh. you’ll catch hell now. Don’t step into the cage with the gorilla. You’ll never win...
Words of wisdom from the owner of this house: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3407303/posts?page=150#150
Exactly.
Ted Cruz is a dumb a$$ puppet on a string.Trump’s IQ is higher than Cruz’s. Deal with it!
You answered your own question.
Before Trump got into the picture I supported Cruz because
a) He is an attorney, and seemed to be equipped to not be BS'd by corrupt legal types like the last few Attorneys General He is articulate and a noted debater.
b) He actually understands the Constitution, as opposed to, say the majority of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus, some of whom are barely literate.
c) He seemed to mean it when he said what you see is what you get. If I promise to do or not do something you can put it in the bank.
Enter Trump...
Suddenly Cruz reveals himself to be suddenly down the line with the GOPe in things related to going along with Obama and Immigration, the huge debt and a few other things.
After that staying with Trump, no matter what, was a no-brainer.
Ted Cruz first got my serious attention with his 21-hour stand in the well of the Senate. He was sharp from start to finish. I could not wait for him to run for President.
When he announced, I donated money. I read his book. I blogged about his intellect and strategy. That began an avalanche of communications (calls, texts, mail and emails) soliciting money for Cruz 2016.
I could not wait for the August 6th debate to watch him wipe the floor with the other contenders, but he didn’t - he didn’t even stand out. Cruz proved to be a wooden policy wonk.
What I witnessed on August 6th was a vicious attack on Donald Trump by the Fox News assassins. Suddenly, I found myself aligned with Trump. Trump was drawing massive crowds and speaking simply without notes.
When it came the “time for choosing” to start in Iowa, I was shocked by Cruz’s thuggish campaign filled with tricks. I was dismayed by his father’s Seven Mountain dominionism and Glenn Beck fronting at events.
MOST OF ALL, Ted Cruz seems inauthentic npw and his voice with all the dramatic inflections is like fingernails on a chalkboard now.
