Dear Trump Supporters
Although I am not particularly enamored with Donald Trump (the ideas Cruz espouses are closer to my own), I absolutely understand and appreciate the dynamic behind Trump's meteoric rise and probable victories in the GOP nomination and the November election. I have posted before on FR about the importance of eradicating the Republican Party, so perhaps Trump is the vehicle for that necessary Schumpeterian creative destruction.
What does fascinate me is the hostility towards Cruz from ostensibly conservative folks who happen to be supporting Trump. I do not really care about the specifics of the animus but note that it approaches a quality that genuinely befuddles me. Having been at FR since the Xlintoon regime I am pretty confident that the hostility heaped on Hellary and Bubba pales in comparison to that currently aimed at Cruz. (I went back and read some random threads from back in the day.)
So here is my genuine question for Trump supporters: what was your attitude towards Cruz a year ago, before the entry of Trump into the race? I recall Cruz being lionized on FR and throughout the conservatosphere for being one of the two or three Senators willing to stand in the way of the Uniparty agenda.
If you are expecting some sort of logical response .. you can forget it. Trump supporters are on an emotional mob-style level. (pardon the pun)
I read your post with interest and I am a 74 year old gentleman who has been with this forum since 1998, so like you, I’ve seen a lot.
And I am particularly interested in the election related threads and read them regularly and post occasionally.
I have to say that I have seen NOTHING posted by the Cruz fans that approaches the sheer nastiness and vulgarity that I have seen from the Trump supporters, including personal messages so vile I could not repeat them in public, though I have shared some of them with the moderators. I had at one time a reasonably positive attitude toward Trump even though he was not my favorite, but the ignorance and nastiness of many of his followers so turned me off that I began to see traits in him that were mirrored by his followers. Too bad, actually. The well has truly been poisoned for me.
I haven’t read the comments yet but have wondered the same.
I could certainly see myself happily voting for Trump or Cruz.
You got that right. Cruz is establishment. He should have disavowed the Super Pacs as well. Just like Trump did.
I’m a Trump supporter and Cruz is my second choice.
It has been my practice thus far to never denigrate Cruz.
When the nomination is set, it is expected we will all close ranks behind that person, but the vitriol has been so heavy this year it might be hard. In the past, such divisions often resulted in mass banning on this forum. Maybe that’s why it’s so bad this time ... there has been no lancing and purging of the boil.
Whatever the *k it takes to BEAT HILLIARY.
Trump / Cruz 2016.
END
Anyone the GOPe support, color me skeptical. Now Meghan McCain and Romney coming to dinner.
John, as a Trump supporter I must respectfully disagree. Perhaps the nastiness we each see comes from our own perspective. It’s been bad on each side equally.
I diminish this board, huh? Have you been watching W.T.F. has happened to Free Republic since Trump announced?!?
It's filled with brand new Trump Trolls!
I'm trying to hold on to sanity here.
I guess I'm naive.
Donald got in and seemed somewhat of a sideshow.
However, Cruz's TPA and Corker Amendment votes, further tainted the H1-B 500% increase that my wife and I were previously willing to forgive. Then, when we found out he was a natural born citizen of three countries, that's when I said, “No way.”
Cruz is a good man, but it seems too likely he will suffer at the hands of a liberal Supreme Court ruling from a lawsuit filed by Hillary.
Cruz should have had his status formally approved before getting into the race. This “self-approval” cr@p is, well, cr@p.
my attitude toward Cruz was admiration for his speaking ability and for shrugging off what seemed like unjust attacks. Since that time I have become alarmed by what I have seen, but initially I was totally on his side because he was so talented and yet an underdog.
I couldn’t stand him then. Trump has nothing to do with it. As a theologian, I seem differently than just political. He is a liar, a false Christian who espouses false doctrine (dominionism) and acts like a televangelist who trades on the name of Christ to get votes.
Yes, I support Trump. I ‘get’ Trump. He reminds me a lot of my great uncle (both good and bad). That said, if Trump never ran or dropped out. I could not, in good faith, as a Christian, vote for Cruz.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I sent a little money to Cruz in July and now I get 5 emails a day:” URGENT: Ted just texted me asking if I would email you...” from Heidi!! Insulting the Intelligence of the Voter Much? He is CREEPY
True, the bots aren’t doing him any favors, just like what happened to Rand Paul.
Thank you.
+1
Don’t respond to these anymore if you were honest you’d already know the answer
You’ve taken the words right out of my mouth!
I was just preparing to do a search for posts with the same theme, but thought I’d check the comments, first. I’m really exhausted by seeing memes and their repetitions.
I dislike playbooks that are issued by strategists (that’s one reason I’m not a Democrat). I dislike those who compose them. I dislike those who issue them. I dislike those who then use them.
The Cruz supporters here turned me against Ted
