Dear Trump Supporters
Although I am not particularly enamored with Donald Trump (the ideas Cruz espouses are closer to my own), I absolutely understand and appreciate the dynamic behind Trump's meteoric rise and probable victories in the GOP nomination and the November election. I have posted before on FR about the importance of eradicating the Republican Party, so perhaps Trump is the vehicle for that necessary Schumpeterian creative destruction.
What does fascinate me is the hostility towards Cruz from ostensibly conservative folks who happen to be supporting Trump. I do not really care about the specifics of the animus but note that it approaches a quality that genuinely befuddles me. Having been at FR since the Xlintoon regime I am pretty confident that the hostility heaped on Hellary and Bubba pales in comparison to that currently aimed at Cruz. (I went back and read some random threads from back in the day.)
So here is my genuine question for Trump supporters: what was your attitude towards Cruz a year ago, before the entry of Trump into the race? I recall Cruz being lionized on FR and throughout the conservatosphere for being one of the two or three Senators willing to stand in the way of the Uniparty agenda.
Understood, and thank you. While not trying to deflect your comments, as a theologian what do you make of Trumps assertion that he has never felt the need to ask forgiveness and repent? Or am I misunderstanding what he has said?

Over at the Conservative Treehouse, Cruz was their man! They couldn’t say enough good things about him. As soon as Trump entered the race, suddenly Cruz grew horns and now, they truly treat him as if he’s the devil incarnate.

There are quite a few names I don’t recognize after being here 13 years that are pushing Cruz, Rubio and Kasich (well, not so much) as well.
I’m not calling you a troll. Just please be kind and don’t call people that support Trump, trolls.
As Scripture says, “By their fruit, you will know them.” We all have seen Cruz fighting the good fight against the forces of oppression in our government. Where has Trump been all his adult life? Paying off politicians who can help him make more millions is rotten fruit.
Was there a memo about this? I thought the talking points said Ted never did anything.

Yep, it’s obvious now. I didn’t see it that way in the beginning but things sure have changed here lately. It’s an easy choice for us now.

Danny, I want to compliment you on your post. While I don’t agree with it you have stated your view in a gentlemanly manner without stooping to foul language and belittling others.
I have watched this site for many years.
This is not a balanced debate. The Trump supporters are profoundly unreasonable compared to the Cruz supporters.
There is so little tangibly related to Trump as a conservative while there is abundance of actions and results relating to Cruz as a conservative.
And yet there is a unending bombardment from Trump supporters that Cruz supporters must not only give up but join in the insults against Ted Cruz.
That was never necessary and Candidate cruz has treated Trump in a much more civil manner than Trump has treated Cruz.
After the Palin attacks in 2008 I have vowed I will stand and fight everywhere for Cruz.
People call me crazy but I honestly don’t care.
I am going to fight for honest conservatism until the end.

It's comments like yours that have turned me from liking Cruz to absolutely despising him and his supporters. I have even debated leaving FreeRepublic because of it. It's not my fault you can't sell Cruz or that he cannot sell himself to the voters.

That’s exactly how I felt about Cruz earlier. I read about his supposed brilliance and debate skills in places like NR and I was ecstatic about his Senate win. However, he was pilloried by the media after the filibuster and he’s been acting like Elmer Gantry lately, so he really has an uphill battle getting elected now. Then I find out about his duplicity and chicanery, and it’s apparent that he’s not who he says he is.
Thank you. We all need to come together after the convention. No Hillary! Ever!
