Blood-stained knife found buried on OJ Simpson’s estate

A construction worker found a blood-stained knife buried on OJ Simpson’s property “years ago” — and gave it to an off-duty cop who kept it in his home before finally turning it over to police, a report says.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the blade is a folding buck knife, which is now being tested for hair and fingerprints after being handed over to the L.A.P.D.’s Robbery Homicide Division in January.

It will be tested for DNA and other biological evidence at the department’s Serology Unit next week, sources told the site.

Are you watching the People Vs OJ? I had forgotten that Mark Fuhrman collected Nazi paraphernalia. Fuhrman is pretty respected these days and one of his books solved a major serial killer crime. Has he distanced himself from his collection? I guess we will find out... On the next episode...

Seriously I am enjoying thst show. The whole circus says so much about celebrity worship, race, and justice.

Wouldn’t the blood’s DNA be recoverable?

"Worthless now, I imagine, how long has it been since the murder? How many people have handled it and how has it been stored?"

It doesn't matter at this point if it was in pristine condition with a bulletproof chain of custody - double jeopardy has attached. But it you find the victim's DNA on that knife it does pretty much confirm what everyone already knows.

Why would there need to be “freshly turned soil” to bury a knife? It’s not like it’s a large object. It seems simple enough to just drive the blade straight into the ground, and then step on the hilt of the knife until it goes all the way in.

True, but there'd be some minor disruption in the soil... and also... since they were searching for murder weapon like that, would they not have swept the yard with a metal detector?

Wrong kind of knife. Forensics says different. See my previous post.

I’m thinking if it has been sitting underground and exposed to nature, it will be hard, unless something got wedged deep into a crack, and was protected from decay.

No. I honestly haven’t seen one second of it. I lived and saw the whole thing real-time - daily right on up to that ridiculous verdict, and I don’t want to be reminded of it, frankly.

I have no doubt Fuhrman has rehabilitated his image. Its tarnishing was a very studied and expert hatchet job by some real scumbag lawyers. Nonetheless, it was effective, especially to a bunch of uneducated racist jurors who threw all objectivity, honesty and belief of the truth to the wind. Hideous. They deserve a special room in hell along with OJ.

It would be nice if it proved for sure what everyone already knows. Unfortunately, OJ probably cannot be tried again for murder as double jeopardy prevents that unless the prosecutor held back some charge and the statute of limitations doesn't prevent a trial on that new charge.

Hopefully the knife was stored so that the DNA did not degrade too much.

“...nobody would notice it.”
Except for the metal detector they obviously did not use at the time.

Don’t they recover DNA from dinosaur bones and mummy remains, though? If so, 20yrs doesn’t seem like too big a task.

Means little...possibly the murder weapon, but so what? Wouldn’t matter if O.J.’s finger prints were on it

If it has Nicole Simpson's DNA on it, it probably means something. Where is someone going to get any of that to plant on the knife?

Besides, this can't be tried in a court of law again, but it can still be tried in the court of public opinion, which is exactly where it needs to be tried.

OJ got away with murder because of a racist jury.

OJ can’t be tried again unless the DOJ decides that he violated the civil rights of the people he murdered.

Oh Lawd, OJ has always he believed he is white...

From a legal point of view, it is worthless—O.J. was acquitted, and therefore no matter what evidence surfaces can never be held for the murder. On the other hand, if it turns out to be the murder weapon, the police, the D.A. will at least know for sure that he did it and hopefully learn how not to blow the next big celebrity case.

They already know how to do that. Don't empanel a racist jury.

The case was moved away from Brentwood into Los Angeles so as to not have a bunch of white people passing judgement on a black man.

It never occurred to them at the time that black people would put racial animosity ahead of justice.

Two words: double jeopardy.

They could find a videotape of Simpson stabbing Nicole and it wouldn’t be good for anything just like this knife. Not that the knife could be used for anything either even if there wasn’t double jeopardy attached. The word of someone “working on the estate” who gave it to an “off duty cop” doesn’t even come close to forming any kind of chain of custody.

Read the story. The cop waited until he was retired. Weird deal.
