Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) posted "An Open Letter to Trump Supporters" on his official Facebook page that outlined exactly why he will not be supporting Donald Trump this November if he were to be the nominee. He urged conservatives to find a third option to support if Trump were to land the party's nomination.

My current answer for who I would support in a hypothetical matchup between Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton is: Neither of them. I sincerely hope we select one of the other GOP candidates, but if Donald Trump ends up as the GOP nominee, conservatives will need to find a third option.

Sasse was also critical of Trump's use of the term "reign," explaining that Nebraskans are not asking for a person to run for king, but rather a Constitutional Republic. He also expressed concerns about Trump's statements about "open(ing) up libel laws" and censoring journalists who do not agree with him.

Sensible idea for Sasse. If he was elected as a tea party candidate and apparently has stayed true to that, he should be re-elected. I don’t know if he’s up for election this time.
However saying anything against Trump is considered treason to some here.
Then that would also apply to Trump unless congress changes it.

No he will vote against a Senator who demonstrates catering to the GOP Establishment is more important to him then doing the voters will.
When a Politician gets out of step with his constituents values, they have every right to fire them. That one of the basic points of a Constitutional Republic.
Unfortunately the 65% as of September DO support him.

We here at FR would be what demographic? I consider myself VERY conservative (ex called me a Christian Taliban) and I am not a DT supporter.
Ben is a true conservative. But, what some of us are finding out is that conservatism does not work for conservatives. It may work for the corporate elite and the gope rinos. But, as it stands it does not work for us. We are really looking for something else that will EFFECTIVELY oppose the left. And one thing we may do is put some taxes on the same corporate rino elite since of course they are a major reason why conservatism does not work for conservatives. They and their urban cosmopolitan liberal know it alls did everything the can to wreck this country so they can just pay the price. That sounds fair to me, doesn’t it!

In your making an electronic posting upon an electronic billboard, of such an important decision, you do your constituents a disservice.
I’m sure they voted for you, because of your intestinal fortitude.
However, posting to an electronic billboard, that a percentage of your constituents might not have the desire to visit, to read your great words, displays that your fortitude is tucked between your legs in a canine’s fashion.
I’m a conservative, and Trump’s positions are not all my cup of tea (to say the least), but I will vote for ANYONE the Republicans put up against Hillary.
I will, too, but the fact remains that most polls show Trump losing to Hillary and Sanders. Cruz, OTOH, often wins against those two. So while I haven't seen any evidence that 65% of conservatives won't support Trump, there is some evidence that plenty of potential Republican voters won't vote for him.
If Sasse isn’t up for two more years, he should sail through the next election if Trump is elected.
By then, we will have seen the real Donald.

He can not vote for Trump, and I can not vote for the GOP ever again.
I heard Ben’s opinion, and Ben can hear mine.
The GOP is utterly nauseating.
And of course, you can support Cruz, altura, that’s cool. I’m not going to hold a person’s choice of candidate to support against them.
I think everyone is trying to make the best decision they can, and they arrive at their choice by their own criteria, and I respect that.
For my choice, it has come down to I just find that trump is a more effective candidate than Cruz is. Cruz has done some things that have changed my ability to trust him, but I’d still vote for him if he’s the nominee.
I don’t think I can vote for a Rubio nominee, I gotta be honest about that.

Every day we learn something new and damaging about Trump.
Every day his supporters defend or ignore it.

And Obama, for that matter.
But they’ve used Executive Orders to abrogate the law as written (in a unconstitutional manner, which is pending before the SCOTUS).
By permitting touchback, Trump would be following the same pattern.
I won’t vote for Clinton or Sanders. If push comes to shove I will either do a write in or just skip that line on the ballot. I have done it before.
Ben is a true conservative.
Sasse is a strong supporter of Constitution wrecking TPP. Nothing conservative about that at all.
I know it may be emotionally gratifying for some Trump supporters to give the "screw you, we don't need your vote" response to people, and to applaud Trump when he says stupid stuff like what he said about libel laws.
But if they really want Trump to win, then they should want him to get as many votes as possible in the general election. At some point, rather than deliberately alienating people who are leaning against the guy, they might want to think about how to convince them otherwise. That means Trump not saying as much dumb stuff, and his supporters working to alienate people less, and convince them more.
Honest to God, I'm waffling on supporting the guy myself, and this "screw all you people" attitude is just making me and others even more concerned about exactly what it is we'd be electing.
Bottom line is that the reflexive attacks on anyone who criticizes Trump is just sheer laziness. People don't want to put in the work/patience to try to convince persuadable voters to support their guy. But if he doesn't win...those same Trump supporters all will be angry as hell about how they were "abandoned" by other Republicans/conservatives.
