Middle Kingdom rock-cut tomb discovered in El-Lisht. The Egyptian-American mission directed by Mohamed Youssef (Dahshur antiquities director) and Dr. Sarah Parcak (University of Alabama) discovered a Middle Kingdom tomb in El-Lisht to the south of Senusret I pyramid.
"The mission has been working on documenting and preserving the result of illicit digs which took place after 25th of January 2011 turmoil." Dr. Mamdouh El-Damaty, Minister of Antiquities, told Luxor Times. The discovered tomb belongs to a High official dated to 12th Dynasty at the reign of Senusret I. The tomb owner held the title "Royal seal bearer".
The mission will be holding a series of training session for Egyptian archaeologists working for the ministry of antiquities on the latest techniques to document and protect the sites using satellite technologies.

" "Royal seal bearer". "
What a heavy, smelly, horrible job. :)
Later on there was sort of a cursive form of Egyptian. It is one of the three languages on the Rosetta Stone
Ah,
Just looked that up, thanks for that.
Demotic 650Bc to 5th AD
That took them long enough to develop.
Surprised it took that long considering what a nation of bureaucrats they where.
Being the first with an idea takes time, but 7 thousand years......
Yet the Chinese are still using ideographs
Very true, but heavily stylised to the point of being writing.
Not quite the same as actually drawing a Duck, Fish, hand, and zigzag, to say hello.
Hmmm, early Dingbats! :)
(Been trying to find a way to do a post [image or .KML/.KMZ file] directly from Google Earth to FR, but, so far, no luck.) Guess I could put the image in my own domain's webspace and hotlink to it from FR -- but that's a hassle if nobody's interested... Any Interest in seeing the looted tombs on OHI???
At any rate, I guess they could have looked between potholes, and have seen a likely depression or other evidence... (Not my idea of productive effort...)
Note that the sun is from the south (from below). That sometimes causes the "inverted moon crater effect" for some folks -- making the holes look like mounds. One way to check/overcome this is to look at the cross-shaped object at upper left (a pair of "linear spoil dumps" from excavations around a pyramid just to the west). Make yourself see those ridges as elevated "berms", and the entire image should "pop" into correct perspective...
Good luck -- and enjoy... '-)
Thx.
In addition to their indigenous writing systems, the Egyptians also used cuneiform, which was the internationally used writing system for diplomatic correspondence.

Thanks.
Your post made me wonder how they did the long walls of hieroglyphs. Did one guy do the whole thing or did they use several guys working on the message at once.
One guy with a chisel could take a long long time.
I love reading about her finds. Cleaver girl!
