Celebrating Satan? While Homeschool w/ no TV really is the answer for our kids, we need to push back as hard as we can on Fox.
Ideas beyond the obvious of just tuning out?
Change channels, you should control what your kids watch. Simple.
“Someone on this thread said itâs adapted from a comic, I guess being out of ideas they are adapting every comic ever made.”
Sounds like it has “one season wonder” written all over it, but, WTH...it can’t be much worse than the other 99.94% of crap that’s passed off as “TV” on the “regular” channels.
I have 2 episodes of “It Takes A Thief” from 1967 that I recorded and will watch over the next couple days. Shows what I think of the current stuff (FX/X excluded of course)...
Well it is a mid-season replacement for the crummy “Minority Report” (I liked the movie) I believe. The Devil helping a “hot female detective” is actually more believable and interesting than that tripe, which I quit watching in like the middle of the third episode.
Meh, sounds stupid. I generally like fantasy but I have zero interest in seeing something like that. Of course, everyone thinks Game of Thrones is must-see TV as well. I finally watched the pilot, didn't even realize it was fantasy until some character mentioned dragon eggs, and when someone asked what I thought of it, I said the show would have worked better if it actually had a plot and storyline instead of random characters engaging in conversation.
Far more offensive to me is that "The Danish Girl" got nominated for an Oscar. Saw a trailer for that movie and its the most blatant liberal propaganda film since Denzel Washington in "John Q". Denzel's film was to promote universal health care and The Danish Girl exists to promote "transgender rights". Fortunately I think the collective response of the general public has been "meh" to the film as well. I hope it doesn't win an Oscar, if it does, it will be Philadelphia all over again. Tom Hanks basically "won" just for playing an oppressed gay guy, nevermind that he sucked in the role and wasn't believable.
The internet was blowing up last night because the first new episode of X-Files got pre-empted for a POST game "analysis" of the NFC football championship. People set their DVR to record it and it cut off the half the episode because of the 30 min. delay so they could show clips and highlights of the game. I never got into X-Files but I don't blame the fans for being royally pissed. Football fans would go nuts if the reverse happened and some team that hadn't played in years was pre-empted for 30 mins. of Star Wars fans talking about the movie premiere.
I got way into Game of Thrones this summer. Even read the books, which are excellent, after I finished watching.
The pilot was, very introductory yes, nothing much happened in it. This review of the pilot sums it up

There are fantastic elements in the series, dragons, ice demons with an army of zombies, a guy brought back to life, face-changing assassins, people taking over the bodies of animals, ect. but it’s more like a medieval political period piece, the “magic” stuff is more complementary to the world which has a real world feel with realistic elements like government debt and banking. Very engrossing to me.
“The Danish Girl”
Disgusting, enough said. I looked up the real guy, his wife left him and he died after his unnecessary genital surgery. Will mainstream audiences ever embrace that kind of thing? I hope not.
I was never into the X-Files, only seen a few eps, but I watched that after the football (yes there was too much boring post-game gabbing, unforgivable in the dvr era for it to run over like that) and part 2 tonight. Interesting, some infuriating lib nonsense in it though, which oddly enough Agent Scully replied to with the excellent line “It’s fear-mongering clap-trap isolationist techno-paranoia so bogus and dangerous and stupid, it borders on treason.”
Honest trailer for Game of Thrones

I love honest trailers, the latest is for the David Bowie movie “Labyrinth” with jailbait Jennifer Connelly.

Here’s the one for Termintator “Gynenhowevertheyspellit”

IIRC you told me it is indeed as putrid as they make it sound there
Pretty sure The Exorcist isn’t celebrating Satan (not unless it’s drifted faaaar away from the spirit of the book and film). Now that crappy-looking Lucifer show might be another matter.
I have had Prime for nine months now and in that time have not found one single film I wanted to watch (the kids have watched childrens’ films). Now I have free movies with the Roku and again can’t find one to watch.
Dial up “Tombstone”.
i’m a B horror movie weirdo.
those and independent horror. maybe one out of three is good sometimes very good.
but i’m a bit demented in my tastes so i wont suggest any!!
did you search for classics? netflix has a bunch of those.
but probably stuff you dont feel like seeing again and again.
How did you like the first show, I thought it was great. I’m probably biased because I missed the show a lot.
Never saw either version of “Minority Report”.
Again, it’s broadcast TV. It is what it is.
From the preview, the blonde looks like Ed Helm’s cretin of a girlfriend from the original “Hangover” movie.
I loved it but I missed the first half due to a football game they were showing that night. Thank God for Demand on Comcast LOL. I have always loved that show infact got their poster during their show back in the 90’s. The poster says “The Truth is Out There”.
Loved to see the same characters back again too.
My position on the 2nd Amendment... is ironclad and full auto--
And my piety is full documented: "Please, please-- Let Tony... come back in 8 weeks!
So my take on "Lucifer" you... can take to the bank--
It is not a documentary on religion, it is a campy take on a comic book character... and while not as high campy as Adam West's "Batman," it does unfold with its tongue firmly inserted into its cheek.
Like last years "Forever," it should be an entertaining plot but it is not a deep enough a premise to sustain a long run on the tube.
Besides, ever since my cameo in Teenage Hot Tub... I watch anything with Lauren German.
Can you believe... she is 37 years old?

Satan is difficult to portray. It requires real talent and finesse, not to mention charisma. Too many actors overact when in the role (such as Al Pacino gobbling the scenery in “The Devil’s Advocate”) or even underplay it (Robert DeNiro in “Angel Heart”), without finding the right pitch.
I’ll have to admit one of the most convincing portrayals I saw on film as a kid 35 years ago was that of Bill Cosby in an almost-forgotten movie, “The Devil and Max Devlin.” Cosby played Barney Satin in that one. It really hit almost too close to home for the darkness in his soul. Even more bizarre, it was a Disney film !
I forgot about this series
I was watching Scorpion Bender
I figure it this way:
As far as boycotting anything, I can’t control what the networks want to show. Almost all of it seems crap to me, these days, whether its due to lousy acting, overt political (left-wing) messaging, or a combination of both, it’s just unwatchable.
I can, however, control what I choose to watch, or not.
“Pride of the Yankees” was on a few nights back. I never tire of that movie.
Timeless message - Gehrig looks at his life and how the Game was good to him, instead of his illness that’s ending his career. “Luckiest man”, he said... IOW, thank you for the blessings I’ve had, not woe is me for the bad break.
It would be vastly different if written today.
Hollywood is always in the adaptation business, for longer than there’s been a Hollywood. Movies and TV are the most expensive entertainment we have to produce so they really like “proven audiences”. One of the nice parts from the TV perspective of comics is not only is there a proven audience, there’s also proof that outline can produce dozens even hundreds of stories (issues/ episodes). Of course then they go and do something silly like make him a police helper instead of focusing on the bar, thus throwing out all that proof. Haven’t seen it yet, not expecting much.
Abe Vigoda, dead at 94.
“The Devil’s Advocate” and “Angel Heart” are excellent movies, Ted Ginn, 3rd.
