When Hurricane Sandy hit the NYC metro area, talking heads described how you had to view your vehicles as lifeboats - get your bug-out gear and leave. It was impractical to remain in some areas without power or gasoline as the temperatures dropped in the following weeks. The idea of remaining in a city, where too many people are fighting over too few resources, simply isn’t practical; after Katrina, people started trickling out into the streets as their supplies ran out.
We were fine without power for a few days, because the temperature was OK and we had supplies. The most useless thing was the radio; it just told us how crappy it was elsewhere...
Actually, this guy (2:00) advises people to go TOWARD the nearest city. I won’t be doing that.

from boston to DC is really screwed. I’m in the middle. Thing is, for me, Armageddon is the end of the SHTF and the beginning of as good as it is going to get on earth. So I would call it, how to overcome during the years before Armageddon. If you overcome, you survive Armageddon.

Nice thing is, I’m midway between Pliladelphia and DC. My only real concern is if a nuke goes off and prevailing winds are in my favor.
Best bet may be to hang tight for a day or two, then leave.

How were the roads out of Sandy’s path? I expect they will be totally gridlocked in any real SHTF.
Hardcore, but the video was great preparation for the State of the Union!
What seems logical to me is to live modestly with a car that’s not worth stealing. Have the trunk packed with crackers, water, a travel bag, and be ready to grab your bag of prescriptions and the dog and just take off when the time comes.
Eh, I’d be fine for a bit. I have enough leftover MREs to last a while, and enough beer to cover water needs for a couple weeks. Enough for the rest of the city to clear out of people :)
I’m between Newark & Jersey City in NJ, but have moats on both sides.
There was no traffic jams because there was no reason to leave; it was only when those spots were looking at long-term power loss that those people had to make other arrangements. As far as the shore is concerned, there was plenty of warning and a lot of it is summer homes.
