Puerto Rico Panic
World Magazine ^ | December 11, 2015 | Marvin Olasky

Posted on 12/30/2015 4:37:59 PM PST by Retain Mike

Liberals are trumpeting a looming “humanitarian crisis” that demands a federal bailout: Otherwise, Puerto Rico will have to cut spending on schools and hospitals. Conservatives are emphasizing a governance crisis: Many Puerto Rican politicians have won votes by overspending; and if they get away with it, their counterparts in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and other states will keep running toward the cliff.

One piece of political evidence: New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio flew to Puerto Rico last month and marched with thousands who demanded that Washington send more money to San Juan. Yes, the governor and the mayor have native Puerto Ricans among their constituents, but they were also looking ahead to a time when they or their successors will demand bailouts of their own. As is typical in such protests, politicians said they had to speak up for the sake of the children.

If they want to think of the children, how about a life of poverty brought on by a crushing debt?

How is this island poor? Cut taxes and let entrepreneurs build resorts and stuff! You’re in the middle of the tropics, for crying out loud!

I can tell you that being no longer a tax nor debt slave(or perhaps more closely indentured servant) is a wonderful existence.

as an American with Italian ancestry, I couldn’t be more ashamed of de Blasio and cuomo. And what a disgrace.
somebody send Giuliani back. he may not cut conservative at the presidential level but as mayor or governor he would be the best thing for this sorry state

The Uniparty has already decided that PR would be our 51st state.
We’re going to get stuck for their debt and the debt of all the other states mentioned in the article.

It would be good to have an opposition party.

Puerto Rico has been running a government Ponzi Scheme for years.

Go and confiscate everything the Puerto Rican politicians bought with the Ponzi Scheme money.

Here’s an idea....Puerto Rico should cut the budget until it equals what they take in for taxes.

I would like to get a new car and force the family three blocks over to pay for it.

Government does it every day.

Well, if Cuomo and Blasio feel solidarity, how much of their budget are they setting aside to buy PR bonds?

I DEMAND that they “invest” all of the NY and NYC employee pension assets into PR bonds as a show of complete solidarity!

We need to cut them lose and they can become a country of their own and make/spend their own damned money.

I dare say we should do the same to Hawaii, well except one of the islands (use it for a military/navy base)

"i just read that while they are 37 mil in the hole"

Tiny PR is $73 billion in the hole.

Anyone stupid enough to have lent them the last $70bil deserves to lose their investment.

So how long have Republicans been in control of Puerto Rico?

Oh wait, the Democrats are in control. Just another Democrat success story like Chicago and Detroit.

Perhaps paying Puerto Rican women to be sterilized would be a better idea.
