Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.
"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."
An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.
Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."
According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.
"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."
So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."

We found a dead raccoon on the church lawn last night. The Cub Scouts were thrilled.
I recall, when I was about six, going to church on a sunny Sunday morning, sitting next to a little old woman who smelled of expensive perfume, and was dressed in a blue suit with a fox stole. I can remember asking if I could touch one of the fox heads, and I can also remember being amazed that the fur was so soft and silky and that the head was so hard!
The eyes were beads, of course, but the rest of it was real and very beautiful. It was made with at least two fox pelts, as there was a head on either side, but it may have been made of up to five pelts. I mean, I was six, so what did I know?
Have to teach them to be very wary of dead foxes, raccoons, etc. as rabies are common and even spittle can remain a viable vector. Lost a dear calico years ago that had gotten into a tussel and cleaned herself afterwards. Serious stuff. Critters don’t just drop dead in the open, they seek hidden safety when ailing.
Whoa.
About an hour ago, I was suddenly struck with one of the frequent, ugly mood swings that plague me relatively often. I became depressed and wanted to strike out at whatever I could, or at the least, go buy a Restorative.
But I won’t do the former because it’s not who I am, and I won’t do the latter because it’s not in the budget. In fact, nothing is in the budget at the moment.
Still it would be good to have some Restorative on hand for moments like these... I’ve been focused on food and doctor appointments, so money for other things has been non-existent.
And that’s true. If I could have put all that into a cohesive thought, I would have posted it, so I thank you, Covenantor, for saying what I was thinking.
