Why should be we worried about a polarity flip?
The magnetic field protects us from harmful solar radiations and cosmic rays. If these start fading away, it may affect every living creature on Earth. An increase in radiation exposure may not only lead to serious health outcomes, but also some genetic disorders could occur. Some biologists even fear that direct exposure to harmful solar radiations may result in mass extinctions.
Not only could some severe health consequence fallow the weakening of magnetic field. In a less concerning outcome, but still very worrisome it could lead to a severe disturbance in satellites, power grids, mobile networks and technology.
Why should be stop worrying about it?
The findings show that even though the magnetic field is dropping fast, the current field intensity has a long way to fall before reaching an unstable level that would lead to a setback. This means that the field is still unusually strong. The researchers found that the time-averaged geomagnetic field intensity over the past 5 million years is about 60% of the field’s intensity today.

It doesn’t go away, it simply changes polarity.
It’s happened many, many times in the past.
Just sell them to Neo-Confederates as a compass which points in the right direction: South.
I read something awhile ago that claimed the poles reversed about every 60,000 years. Patches of northern polarity appear more frequently in the Southern Hemisphere ( and vice versa) until the poles flip.
All we have to do is put a tax on it and the problem will go away.

In order to stop the pole flip, we need to build giant electro-magnets and mount them on extremely tall towers at evenly spaced out locations on the planet’s surface.
Sure it will involve a lot of money, but isn’t your life, the lives of your children , worth it ?
I am opening a fund for magnet credits. We need your support to solve this pending problem. If we don’t, rivers will flow backwards and all electronic devices will have to be re-wired in reverse. We cannot just keep kicking the can down the road on this, like they want us to do with global warming (or cooling, or like whatever...man).

Doesn't it depend on what creates the magnetic field ?
The magnetic poles move all the time. According to the data, they keep moving further away from the geographic poles.
Let's say they were fixed and couldn't move. How would they suddenly 'change' polarity ? What would be the mechanism that would explain that ?
We've got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Geeks have long struggled with estimating the velocity of a fast chick.
One of the original evidences, also for sea floor spreading, was magnetic mapping in the Atlantic during WWII for ASW purposes.
If your wandering around in the middle of nowhere and find magmatic outcrop with neat little holes cored in it, its from “paleomaggots”, guys that study/survey the magnetic record frozen in the rock at cooling.
